I made a few changes over the winter and it paid off...ran better than I expected. Felt great to finally get the car too hook up...and this was on a test and tune night with no track prep. First 2 runs were great then the track started to get slick from the fwd cars dragging water to the starting line. Changes made since last year: Moroso trick springs, Spohn adjustable panhard rod, new 27x10.5 ET streets(old ones were 26x10.5), installed sump on stock fuel tank, Aeromotive pump replaced carter electric, 8AN braided fuel line, bypass regulator.

Big changes in the first 1/8 mile not not a lot changed in the last 1/8. Looks like the engine runs out of steam in high gear. The 1/4 mile ET improvement is from the better 60' time. 1-1/3 mph increase is nice but not very big compared to the 1/8 mile mph increase. You're losing hp in the top end somewhere.

Break the run down into sections.

60 foot time
60' to 1/8 mile time
1/8 mile to 1000' time
1000' to 1/4 mile time

This way you can see where on the track the car picked up or slowed down. A better 60' time looks good but the time it took you to go from the 1/8 mile to the 1/4 was slower than before.

mw66nova,
The Moroso springs don't do too bad on the street, actually better than I thought. I wouldn't run this setup on a daily driver but for weekend cruising and driving to the track its fine. You just have to be careful on curves and ramps onto the interstate. It has a more bouncy or floating kind of feel to it when you hit bumps or dips in the road. If you've ever drove an old car with warn out struts and shocks..it feels kinda like that. I think removing the front sway bar in combination with the skinny front tires had more negative effect on the handling than the springs did.

Stephen 87 IROC,
Yea I agree I think it does run out of steem a little on the high end. This motor seems to like to shift at 5800rpm, I was going through the traps last night around 6100rpm's. I probably should have went with a 28in tall tire instead of a 27in to keep it from over revving at the top end, and its possible my valve springs are getting a little tired they're several years old now. Or maybe I should just switch over to a solid roller instead and get rid of the hydraulic roller I have now so I can rev it a little higher.

Thanks for the comments guys

taengineering,
No I'm not near Morocco, I live just west of Indy. I've always wanted to try the dragstrip up there but haven't done it yet. I don't have a trailer or truck big enough to haul my car so I have to drive to the track so I normally only go to IRP. I've been up to Muncie a couple of times though.

Throw that dual plane to the curb and get a single plane intake, that thing is what's holding you back now with the upper rpm issues...been there done that my 355 I had the performer rpm and with that set up the motor was completely done pulling at 5500 rpm-you could feel car nose over before the 1000' mark at 5200 or so. I installed the vic jr with 1" 4 hole spacer, that was the onoly change and the motor pulled cleanly and hard well above 6K.

Nice times for a street car, my first impression with my trick springs was they are floaty. It tosses the front end up rather quickly since i also installed the Lakewood drag struts at the same time and it will dip fast also under hard braking. Nothing that is unsafe or uncontrolable, definatly worth the investment for repeated 60 foots.

Thanks for the advice IHI...I might need to try the Vic Jr. again, I have one sitting in the garage. I had it on my old combo for awhile but it ran better with the RPM airgap..but that was with a much milder cam 225/230 dur @.05 .525 lift.

For 2 hrs time and $30 it's definately worth trying especially if you alrady have one. I'm looking forward to seeing the results myself. That vic jr will be MUCH better suited to your combination than that dual plane.

If you dont have one already, get a 2" open spacer also to try, that will really let it breathe on top where your needing it. Just be sure to check jetting since the bigger spacer will want to have more jet also.

Good run... I just also went for the first time this year. I am only down to 13.16s though... Made it 3 round of bracket racing. I also agree with the Jr intake.

Let me know when you can make it to Muncie. I will be going alot of Wed but we could roll up there on a Sat and run the elems.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm still pumped about the 1.5 60' time, I thought the changes I made would help but I didn't expect that big of a change. Now I need to work on the brakes before I go back to the track..not much fun stopping on warped rotors.

how would it act if the sway bar was left on? then just take the bar off for the track.

mw66nova,
With the suspension set up just like it is but with the sway bar on, You still have the bouncy floating type of feeling when you go over bumps or dips in the road. But it handles much better when turning especially at higher speeds. It all depends on the amount and type of driving that you do. If you mostly just drive around town I wouldn't hesitate to take off the sway bar and put the moroso springs on and leave it that way. If you do a lot of interstate travel with on/off ramps and curves at high speed I wouldn't do it. I'm sure you could drive it safely if you use common sense and slow down on curves but for me it would get annoying on a daily driver but its just fine on a weekend cruiser. Hope this info helps.

it does help alot. i do quite a bit of interstate travel, so i think i'll stick to my v6 springs and wore out struts till i can afford another daily driver, then the trick springs and 90/10's will go in. thanks so much jbenge for taking the time to let me know!
