First timer

Sometime during the summer I plan on taking my car out to the track. I've never been to one before and I dont know how it all goes down.

Ive read the rules off the tracks website, it says anything 14:00 and up needs a catch can, safety belts, and a neutral safety switch.

Not really sure what a catch can is or a neutral safety switch but yeah.

Any help on that along with how it all goes down at the track would be a big help, I dont want to go and make a complete *** out of myself.

Okay figured out what the neutral safety switch was, and read up on the catch can, why would the require a catch can? im kind of confused by that.

Just go on a street night and race. Your '84 is a modern car. The white plastic container that has some coolant in it is your catch can. They don't want you spilling coolant on the race track if you overheat the motor. Post your timeslips.

Most tracks aren't to strick on that stuff. Usually you go to the tech guy and he puts numbers on your car with out looking at anything, or at least thats how it works down here.

Yeah thats what I kind of figured would go down.

So how does the whole procedure work?

You get in line, do a burn out, get to the light, when it turns green you go?

Go on the third yellow, if you wait till green you'll have a ****ty R/T.

but yeah that's pretty much how it goes, if you have questions just ask one of the track guys, they're usually standing around wearing a shirt that will identify them. Just say you're new and ask what to expect.

Another suggestion, watch what everyone else is doing. Get there early and pay attention. Make sure you understand what stage and pre-stage means before you get into the lanes.
