I'm buying another thirdgen and I'll have some money to put into it. These are the engine specs I'm planning on:
358 block
Late model vortec heads - 239/160 @ .500
220/230 @ .50, .510/.510 on 114 or 112 LSA - 1.5 RR
Either:
Edelbrock performer rpm vortec carb manifold
750 dp carb
Or:
Holley Stealth Ram with vortec provisions
30 lbs injectors
Proper tuning
I'm not sure whether I want to go FI or carbed yet.
Pushed through long tubes dumped before the rear axle.
The rear end will be a 4.10 posi and a T-5 will handle shifting duty. Stock style suspension with SFCs, LCAs, relocs and good tires.
What do you think a beastie with this setup would be capable of running? I'm hoping someone on here has a similar setup or knows of one.

with a good driver and absolute optimal conditions and traction, i'd say 11.5-11.9...what is the goal for vehical weight?

Pretty much stock weight. Maybe slightly more since I'll have a sound system in it, although I might pull some stuff to balance it out.

I'm currently looking at a trade for an IROC (G92, LB9, 5-speed) + cash, and there's a 91 Z28 for sale with 305 5-speed.
I'm buying a car already with a 5-speed, so she's either going to be a roller with no motor or I'll be pulling the 305 she comes with. Figure it's easier to do a motor than an auto -> manual tranny swap.
And yes I am selling the T/A to get this.

I was hoping for low 12s with a nasty 60 ft. If I dropped some weight hopefully 11s, but I think she's gonna stay stock weight.

if you decide to keep the t5 make sure that you beef it up. the reason they never put the t5 behind a 350 was because it was only rated for 300 pounds. if you put any slicks on it be prepared to grenade the trans.

well since the T-5 trans should blow up behind that motor, and rear end should probably blow up on the first pass with slicks on it. i'd say one tow truck home.

Mid 12s. That cam isn't huge by any means. Some guys have had good luck with the vortec/perf. rpm/xe 274 combo though.

actually some recent evidence has shown that T-5s can DEFINETLY hold their own.. a few guys on the boards will know what I mean
so I'm set on running one.
The rear end will be upgraded for a 12 bolt as money permits, however 10 bolts can hit 1.8 60s and be just fine, I'm going to try to push the envelope a bit.
and why do you say the motor will blow up xpndbl3? only if I don't assemble it right.. and I'm having a shop balance/blueprint the bottom end for me. it can more than handle the power. like tevor said, the cam isn't huge. but it is the biggest that will pass CA emissions.

I hope that the trans does hold, I was just speaking from personal experience. After I started getting 1.7's with slicks the trans didn't make it 3 more weeks. That was on a stock t5 from an 84 HO though. Good Luck with the project!!

well u trapped 109 before, with 33 more cubes i'd say you'll trap prolly 111. your cam is slightly more aggressive than mine, your heads are better (although i don't know flow numbers) and you'll have more cubes, so for all intents and purposes you should be faster. However I'll be running lower gears, a stick and sticky tires. You'll be running a 700r4 with street tires. I think it'll end up being close in the ET but you'll outtrap me.
and our DA is great, sea level track, usually colddddddd

700r4, 6% converter slippage, 4.10's and 28" tall tires. ought to put you through the traps around 6k.

I agree with the mid high 12's. Lot's of variables to consider. The cam is OK for your I/E ratio. I like higher lift myself.
If you go with fuel injection I would consider a 113 LSA. With a Carb maybe 110 LSA. Talk to the cam supplier.

i believe the lift bumps up to .544/.544 with 1.6s iirc. 510/510 is at 1.5.
what gears are you going with travis? I thought u had 3.27s or whatever? I'm actually considering going 4.56s, but i'll have to compute my highway rpms and what i want to cross the traps at and see if i can do it.

i have 3.42 right now. if i upgrade in the future its only at the same time when i do a manual trans swap.ill laugh if u do 4.56, youll just spin off the line and when your car is actually fast, youll just over rev at the end.
