T5 abuse

390 RWHP ran all last year at the track (and street) with no probs. Ran full race slicks and managed a best 60' of 1.50. I began power shifting for the last half of the season and the T5 has held up very well.

However. . .this year I'm adding a 250 shot and I'm worried that with that I might end up leaving my T5 all over the track.

Wondering what's the most any of you have gotten away with running a stock T5. I don't want to break, but I don't want to shell out 2K for a G-Force.

Well, I personally have not broken mine.(Mostly stock 84 HO camaro)

Other people on the boards have had stock driveline failure(including t5) at around the power level you are currently at. Do you have an upgraged clutch???. Clutch plus slicks plus 550-600HP equals T5 on track(in a bad way).

You could run it till it breaks, but I personally don't want that much explosive violence 6" from my entire body.

Bok Bok.

Yeah, I have a beefy pressure plate, scatter shield, and clutch. I've also converted the clutch from hydraulic to mechanical.

But I've still only got that lil T5 GM didn't even think enough of to put behind a 350.

My personal experience with a 4.3/T5 a friend put in his high 14 second Blazer- first good solid shift after getting it running on 295/50/15 tires = grenaded T5. Swapped the T5 for a muncie 4 speed, first donut with the muncie = blown up 7.5". Swapped a TH350 and ran it like that for 2 years doing donuts, burnouts, etc. Manual trannies can be rough on just about everything.

I'm thinking of going with a G-Force T-5. I plan on starting out spraying 250, but eventually will be spraying 400.

Think the G-Force can handle 390 RWHP + 400 shot?

the g-force's are supposed to handle 600hp...your in Jericho territory with a 400shot...i'm assuming your fogging it...you gotta pay to play...look about $4k to upgrade to a Jericho, but the tranny will be the last of your worries.

well i had a lot of passes on my t-5 as well - ran a few 1.65's with it and then drove it the next week and left it practically hangin on by a thread just coming down an on ramp onto the highway at a normal pace... consider your t-5 on it's last legs lol

i just upgraded to a t-56 from rpm transmissions... rated to 650ftlbs, but they have newer fbodies with them runnin in the 9's

Never heard of rpm transmissions. Are you pleased with it?

I know g-force offers a t56 too. . .rather not go with a Jerico and have to tear my floor up.
