fuel cell

Im thinking about puting a fuel cell in my car this winter its a track only car. I want to put it up front in the engine bay in front of the radiator i am eaither thinking of going with a 3 gallon or 1 gallon. i dont really care if i have to fill it up ever time down the track. im thinking about going with the 1 gallon and mounting it on the battery tray since its relocated to the rear. would the 1 gallon be enough or should i go with the 3 gallon. also how good are the procomp electric fuel pumps. thanks oh ya might be stupid question but why do some fuel cells have 2 pick ups

Re: fuel cell

Go with the 3 gallon for sure. If you get caught up in traffic coming back to the pits, or go to a track with a long return road, you'll need the extra fuel. Some cells have 2 pickups for 2 pumps for nitrous appications which needs a separate pump to feed.

Re: fuel cell

3 gallon cell mounted up front. I've changed the design slightly but you get a basic idea. I don't have any pictures of the new setup yet.

Re: fuel cell

Fiberglass hood. I notched it slightly on the underside. I could have mounted the cell about an inch lower also.

Re: fuel cell

Here is a pic of the 3 gallon Summit fuel cell I have for nitrous use. Fit in pretty easy with a little bit of grinding to make it sit right. doesn't hit the hood at all.

Re: fuel cell

Oops. Correction. Mine is a 4 gallon cell. I can get 2 full passes and if I'm really lucky and don't waste time in the staging lanes, 3 passes but I refill after every run just to make sure I have enough fuel.

A small 3 gallon cell like that would be nicer. 1 gallon less gasoline is just under 6 pounds off the car. Alcohol is 6.6 pounds per gallon but if I forget to fill after a run, I doubt I could get a second run before running out of fuel.

I now use a belt driven pump with an alcohol injection system. I need a -10 feed line and have 2 fuel returns and a vent near the top of the cell now.

You need a grounding wire from that ring around the cap to the frame.

Re: fuel cell

yup thats the one. one thing to note is that you should put it on the passenger's side for the easiest fit. I still have battery up front so I put mine on the driver's side and the fuel cell has the outlet fitting on the left front side that I had to plug and re-drill to the right side because it hit the fenderwell

other than that and about 15 minutes with a grinder on the front support it fits right in no problem.
