front bumper ?
well i am finally going to lighten my car up . it has become mostly a track car that i drive on the street once in a while.
i have the nose off the car and the front bumper bar and honeycomb off. should i put a lightweight brace accross where the bumper mounted ?

Re: front bumper ?
i plan on just hitting the factory support with a plasma cutter to lighten it up as much as possible. The nose can fold flat at high speed, so it needs some sort of reinforcement

Re: front bumper ?
Just how fast do you plan on going? My nose stays in place at 140 mph. The bottom spoiler may fold under slightly but I don't have any top end pictures to confirm it.

Re: front bumper ?
at 140 i've seen pics of the nose looking like a brick wall, can't be good for aerodynamics

Re: front bumper ?
Depends how much you remove. I still have the brackets on the inside of the headlights attached to the rad support.

Re: front bumper ?
thats what i was lookin at doing . a aluminum brace accross the bottom of the bumper bolts holes and some braces going out to the bottom of the nose piece. and i was leaving in the brace between the headlights.

Re: front bumper ?
well, if you went with a sportcoupe bumper cover you wouldn't need it. they are stiff enough to not require any support underneath. i love having a sportcoupe!

Re: front bumper ?
front bumper and attaching hardware was 24 lbs on a scale when I removed mine, I had to put aluminum brace from the bottom of the core support to just behind where the front plate would go, nice and straight at 143mph so far

Re: front bumper ?
mine weighed 35lbs. on my digital scales with all the honeycomb stuff on it. so far i have droped 100 lbs. !! plus i am moving the battery to the back.
oh ya , how did you guys reattach your turnsignals? mine mounted to the bumper piece that i have removed. i was thinking just a couple of little angle brackets to hold them to the nose piece.

Re: front bumper ?
Just locate an aluminum support from the 82-84 and swap out the steel one. Minor trimming will be needed to the honeycomb part to fit it to the 85 and up years.

Re: front bumper ?
I have yet to see an aluminum one. I know a guy who has parted out probably 300 thirdgens of all different years and he's never had one either. Looking in junkyards for probably 8 or 9 years locally for the ever elusive aluminum support from 82-84

Re: front bumper ?
Check on Ebay. Myself and most of us in Stcok and Super Stock have these pieces. Most common in the Z28's but can be found in non-Z's too. Not as uncommon as you might think, these may also have been painted black so you may not have recognized it visually. When I picked up mine, that same boneyard had three of them in cars in the yard.

i too have never seen the aluminum bumper support. i thought about getting one, but i really just don't see the need on a car that barely gets driven.
