Bolt in roll cage for AutoX
My first question is if in AutoX STS class, is a roll cage legal since I know that subframe connectors aren't. My reason for asking is that I hear that a cage will stiffen up the chasis some, would this be beneficial. If so I would just want a bolt in 8 pt tops so that I can remove it after each event. My car is my DD also. Its an 89 RS

Cages & SFCs are both legal in STS, as it conforms a lot to Prepared. Both can be welded or bolt-in, you just can't cut body metal to fit them. IE:custom built through floor SFCs are not allowed..

The Solo rules reference the General Competition Rules (i.e., roadrace) as far as rollbar/cage requirements.
For open cars in the Stock, Street Prepared, Street
Touring, and Street Modified categories, the roll bar or roll cage
height may be reduced from Appendix C or GCR Section 9.4 requirements
to the highest possible height which fits within an installed
factory specified hardtop or convertible top.

My ESP car has a four-point bar (I think only because it was used for hillclimbs or Solo I at one point in its life), but I'm going to take it out once I get SFCs installed.Pat

Re: Bolt in roll cage for AutoX
After re-reding thge rule book, over & over all this morning, your right. I think my Search ended up in PreparedClass & I didn't realize that.
SFCs are NOT allowed in STS. Cages are, welded or bolted-in. Even in Stock category....
13.2.H. Roll bars and roll cages may be added (See Appendix C). It is strongly recommended that roll cages be constructed according to the GCR, though they must be bolted (not welded) into the automobile and be contained within the driver/passenger compartment. Roll bars may be welded in. A roll cage has more than four attachment points to the body or frame, or has bracing both fore and aft of the main hoop.

I thought SFCs were illegal. Anyone know of a 6pt cage that is bolt in, or at least so I can get rid of the bars by the door?

Re: Bolt in roll cage for AutoX
Just take the weld-in mounting plates, drill 4 holes on them, bolt them in instead & copy them for backing plates on the other side. I know of bolt-in SFCs, but not bol-in cages. Not saying they aren't out there, I just don't know of any sold that way.
You can always buy the step-down door bars & a 4-pt cage.

So then this one from Spohn would work:

Looked at the Wolfe bolt in 6pt roll bar. Does it all come in seperate pieces and bolt together requiring no welding?

Also check out Autopower for bolt-in bars or cages:

I still think you're better off getting better tires if you want to go faster. You will have faster times on an autocross course with stickier tires more than any single bolt-on mod.
Tires, shocks, springs, alignment ... then worry about other stuff like rollbars/cages.

Re: Bolt in roll cage for AutoX
I'm working on getting that stuff first for sure. I'll be getting a set of Koni Yellows for the rear Bilsteins, some sort of new springs, got WS6 swaybars, wonderbar, will be doing bushings. The rollcage will be one of the last things on the list.
