got the new motor to the track tonight...
and I surprised myself big time. I filled up the trusty slowmaro with premium and drove it 40 miles to Atco Raceway. It was pretty hot and humid but not too bad out the car runs about 190* idling through traffic, a little too hot for my liking but no big deal. I made 3 passes... All made on motor through the single 3" flowdisaster catback and me shifting when the factory tach hit 7000RPM
1st - Lined the car up immediately after arriving, no cool down time, tires at 21psi. I bring the converter off idle and spin quite a bit.... 11.76 @ 116.76mph with a 1.76 60ft.
2nd - Car cools down a little and I lowered the tire pressure to 18psi. Launched it the same as before and it spun worse than before. 11.99 @ 118.49mph with a 1.988 60ft
3rd - Car is cool, the sun goes down and the humidity disappears. I drop the tire down to 16psi. Get a little higher up on the converter (2000RPM or so), it spins but pulls very strong... 11.57 @ 119.13mph with a 1.71 6ft
...The car has absolutely no tuning done to it. The 750 Demon is still out of the box settings and the timing is locked out at 36*. I once again proved to myself that you don't need all these fancy parts to run fast, just a well thought out combination and maybe some dumb luck... There are plenty of parts on my car that a lot of the "experts" say you can't go fast with.. Single 3" exhaust, stock fuel lines with a cheap mechanical pump, a ton of weight still on the car, out of the box "cheap" aluminum heads, flat tappet cam, and bone stock suspension. Anyway, it's definitely time to save up some pennies and do some suspension work - With a good 60ft this car should be going into the 11.10-11.20's.
For those that don't know, It's a 10.5:1 350 with out of the box Canfield 195 heads, a "top secret" Cam motion solid flat tappet (it's in the .560's with 1.6's and on a 110LSA), Professional Products Hurricane, Hooker LT's into single 3" exhaust, 750 Speed Demon, and MSD ignition. Car has 3.92 gears and a 9.5" nitrous (tight!) converter.
...and here are a ton of pictures of it: http://profile.imageshack.us/user/slowz/images

Nice times for the combo...just think about what you'd be running with recommended mods instead
dual exhaust off the headers
lighten the car up
better intake manifold
tuning the carb
believe me, I will say those times are impressive, but dont think your reinventing the wheel, these mods are world renowned for a reason. but your doin really good with whatcha got
what was the DA at the track that night...your area on a bad day is still better than most of ours on a normal day. Last weekend we ran in 5300' of air.

If the car ran that fast with so much potential left on the table, I don't even want to think about what it'll run with some more tweeks and nitrous. The next round of mods will likely be suspension, an exhaust cutout, bigger fuel lines/pump just to be safe, and I have a manual steering box I'd like to install.I don't mean to gloat over myself too much more but 11.57's @ 119mph with a pump gas 350 in a car that is 100% street worthy is hilarious to me. I filled the tank, put about 90 miles on it, 3 drag passes, and beat on it quite a bit while cruising. When I pulled into my driveway I was at half a tank
That's pretty good gas mileage for a race car.I also have to say that Cam Motion is absolutely awesome. For $157 I had a cam that was spec'd out for my combo and delivered to my door in 2 weeks time. If you guys want to go fast, give them a call. I'm giving them the most credit for making this car run as good as it does.

I am not riding his coat tails but let's be honest for what he has it is running pretty damn hard!! I know alot of people with shop built engines that are supposed to run a # and don't even come close....Chris don't get a big head cause I'll still bust your chops regardless lol but congrats dude you have a runner!

It's running very good for what it is, but we all know there is still ET on the table with some simple modifications too. But you get to a point where your maxed out and have to decide is it cool to stay here and say i run what i run, or take it up another level and find the good in that too.
So long as it's not a POS Comp cam in it, they will run very good

That is very good. 11.50's with a pump gas 350 in a full car is a winer.
But, I will say one thing. Those Demon Carbs are dead off out of the box. If you upgrade the fuel system and dyno tune the car it will be rewarding, I promise. Mine didn't have any jets in the back AT ALL!

very impressive for what you have. that car must be lighter than you think tho. with some tuning/weight reduction and a cold day that could be a 10 second car

I run a pos comp cam
If I wasn't changing motors, I'd like to try out a bullet cam.
88IROC350TPI, nice runs
My mighty demon I think is back to stock jetting right now, maybe 2 sizes leaner on the secondaries, and the plugs are pretty dark tan after 5 runs. Finally getting a grip on this thing and matched my best ET made back in cool 50 degree November with a run in high 80 something degree weather last month.

It's definitely lean at WOT but rich everywhere else. I'll probably take it to the track again sometime this week and do some actual tuning. I'll start by throwing more timing into it and see what it does. Anything faster than what it ran before will be nothing short of amazing to me.

Umm, yea I have some tuning to do lol but I'll give it the 'ole college try anyway hahaha...
I might have to get rid of this comp cam and get myself a mystery cam lol!!

I've never weighed the car so this could be true... But it started off as a fully optioned car. it has the glass hood, aluminum heads, draglites, removed a/c, stereo, spare tire, and sway bars. I can't imagine it weighing less than 3400lbs with me (170lbs) in it? It also had about 80lbs worth of tools and crap in the hatch. I'll try to find a place to weigh it at asap... maybe it's freakishly light which would explain a lot.

are you not running a rear sway bar? that could possibly be why the car only leaves with one tire in the air.

you may be lighter now. I think my new setup with aluminum stuff will be close to sub 3400 lbs with me in it still with stock hood. I'm averaging 158-160lbs summer time, 165 winter/fall

great times tho, cant wait to see it tuned up and launching great

Re: got the new motor to the track tonight...
I took it to the track the other day again... new best but nothing too spectacular... 11.501 @ 119.5 with a 1.66 60ft. The car was falling on its face most of the night, it's pretty lean and on top of that I came home and discovered I had a 7000RPM pill in my MSD box, I was shifting at 7000RPM, seems the car would hit the rev limiter, lose RPM, and stuggle to recover. The only things I did to the car was bypass my power steering (it broke) and take off my filthy 5 year old K&N air cleaner - both of these things didn't make any difference whatsoever in ET.
aside from the MSD pill, I noticed my rear float level was also very low. On top of these fixes I also upped the jets 3 sizes.... I'll be going back to the track any day now and maybe I'll get an 11.30 out of it
