couple of vids from the last two times out..1st one is a good one, 8.91 @156 using the fogger set at 250hp, 2nd one I was at milan and we were in a huge hurry to get some runs down because weather was on the way, Man I`m figgity in that cockpit!! And for good reason I knew it was going to be a ride, dialed down the starting % and decreased the ramp time to full..still made a huge move toward the center line.

Re: go pro camera vids
They use traffic cones at the timing lights? I'd hate to hit one at speed.

You use your park brake lever for a chute release? That's a cool idea. Mine is long gone and I have a simple release handle attached to the roof.

Your camera sure has problems with audio but I like the fisheye lens. I need to pick up a real video camera myself. Taking video with a digital camera isn't bad but it lacks the quality of a real video camera. I've used a MiniDV camera before and it took great quality. Because it gets recorded onto tape, it just takes a lot longer to transfer the video to the computer.

Re: go pro camera vids
Yea the chute is the park brake handle, actually pretty easy to hook it up that way, just needed to drill one hole and bolt it in...I saved that handle for years too!! I had a buddy that told me he wished he had used his handle instead of the one that comes withthe kit, I decided to try it, it works perfect!

Those cones, I never thought about hitting one but yea, that track is dangerous just to enter the gate...no barriers, no emt or ambulance on grounds, worst of all no timming boards and the sound system sucks...BUT this track is the most strictest on sanctioned rules and is always the first ones to site that I`ve exceded the limits of my gear or lack of for that matter, long story but they are unable to upgrade or build anything, township has been trying for the last 25 yrs to get them to shut down, I give them praise for not giving up and show it by using them when we need a relaxing day! I entered the trohpy race (1st bracket race EVER) took my self out in the second round...went red but hey it was fun to take a win...I got video of it too, pretty funny it was 7.80 car in the 1/8 and I was a 5.80 :-)

That little gopro is cool but the sound blows and the picture blurs or moves due to the roll bar mount...I have seen some good video from them, I should work on a better mount, Mmmm. Thanks for the good words Zone...you can get to your goals, just takes time !

boy scott you sure bounce around like a hyper dog when setting up. Made me laugh a little with all the switch flipping and checking and double checking things. I'm sure I look the same way though,

Re: go pro camera vids
I'm probably doing the same things before, during and after the burnout.

Line lock for the burnout then make sure the delay box is activated, make sure the vehicle reaction timer is armed, make sure the rad fan and oil accumulator are on, make sure the playback tach is armed and recording. As I move up to the prestage beam, activate the bump button.

There's a lot going on inside the car from when you leave the head of staging to when you stage. When you see one person prestaged or even bumped all the way in to stage and the other person hasn't even prestaged yet, they're probably busy still setting stuff.

I like prestaging first. With the bump button and the throttle stop, I can sit there with the throttle to the floor and the engine at an idle for as long as I want while the other guy does whatever he has to do. As soon as we both turn on the stage lights, the transbrake gets activated and at the first flash of yellow from the top bulb, I let the transbrake button go, the engine goes to WOT on the 2-step and I wait for the delay box to release the transbrake.

I currently use a Kodak M893IS digital camera to record video. From all the video I got last year, the worst was when I had someone video the car while I made a run. Trying to hold the camera steady is hard to do unlike a real video camera. It's still a good video but it's a little too jerky for my liking.

For those new to TGO, these are my 2 favorite videos out of all the ones I did last year. The external shot and an internal like the above videos except I also did an overlay of the tach to show what the engine is doing during a run. Mid to low 9 second passes with both.

Re: go pro camera vids
That tach overlay is awesome, obviously two cameras going but how did you edit that in? I`d like to do something like that.

Steve, I`m usually alot calmer but the situation was rain coming fast and me wanting to get at least 3 runs in for the 2 hr drive...

One thing I know for sure now after watching myself, I need the Trans brake button back on the console..I started out with it in the park brake slot ( a big red button), then had to put the chute release there and went back to the "stick"which in comparison really is inconsistant as can be.

Re: go pro camera vids
The overlay was done with the same camera but 2 different videos. The in car camera is self explanatory. I then replayed the run back on the tach later and just held the camera to record it. I could have done a complete overlay including the 6000 rpm burnout but didn't want that much. Normal tach playback is 1/3 speed which allows you to see a lot of little things happen. To play back at regular speed I have to hold a button on the tach which is just out of the camera frame. I have a bunch of different video software but can't remember which one I used to do the overlay. Some software is better to do things than others so I use different programs. I took the tach video and put it in the corner of the in car video and it took a bit to sync it up as close to the run as possible and it turnout out close enough to get the effect. I constantly played back the video listening to the audio and watched the tach to make sure it was synced as close as possible.

Some of the video editing programs I use are Vegas Pro, Pinnacle Studio, Ulead Video Studio. All can be found on your favorite torrent.

The only bad thing about that video with the tach is the actual starting rpm. I pushed the bump button and the throttle pedal fell to the floor. It's an air cylinder throttle stop that I use for a starting line enhancer. When I put my foot to the floor, the adjustment was wrong and the rpms jumped to 3500 instead of staying at that 1000 rpm idle. When the throttle stop released, the rpms jumped to 5000 on the 2 step as per normal. When the transbrake and 2 step released, the rpms jump to 6000 since that's the stall speed of the converter. It's interesting to see the rpm peak at 7500 and only drop back to 6400 after the shift. After that run I fixed the adjustment and the engine now stays at an idle until the throttle stop releases.

I've also switched some buttons around. In the video, my linelock is on the dash. I've moved it to a button on the shift ****. In the video, I do a high gear burnout. I'd still like to start in first gear then shift to high but without the button on the shifter, I can't shift without letting go of the line lock button. I have enough torque that a high gear burnout still works. Estimated wheel speed during that burnout is a minimum of 100 mph.

I have my tranbrake button on the left side of steering wheel. I made a custom bracket but had the button too high and too close the the wheel. It was easy to bump the button when turning the wheel. I remounted it down into the spoke so I have to reach more to push it. Where it is now, I can't accidentally bump it when turning the wheel. I use a Moroso adjustable button and have it set on a hair trigger for the fastest reaction. I've considered moving the transbrake button to a pole in front of the shifter but I like the steering wheel mount better.

Re: go pro camera vids
Ok thanks, I will try those, I have a pinnacle version. I got to get a play back adapter for the tach, it has memory but not the whole run, just highest rpm. I tried the t brake on the wheel, just couldn`t get used to it, and also on the shifter which created more problems....I have thought about a pole to hold that button since the console is out of room.

What the GoPro lacks in (sound and vibration) quality, it makes up for in placement.
I got the Motorsports one that has the suction cup. Got it before the wide angle one was released. What I've done before is have my regular OLD Hi-8 camera in car and overlayed the audio onto the GoPro footage.

I'm curious to see what you did for a rollbar mount. There's no screw hole in mine and I can't figure a good way to mount it. Got any pics?

Might be taking my GoPro up this weekend to the track, here it is mounted on my 450 at the dunes using the rollbar mount.
