Almost won Super Chevy True Street

Hey guys I went to the Super Chevy Show this past weekend at Maple Grove Raceway. I entered the DOT class with plans on running the True Street event. I made a test pass on Fri. went the time I figured it would with the heat and humidity. We got rained out the rest of the day on Fri. We get there 1st thing Sat. morning and get called to the lanes. This was 9:00am they just finished prepping the track. The car left hard I had a 1.34 60 and it went a 9.98 @ 134. Finally 11 am came and we went out for the True Street cruise. It was about a 16-18 mile run, when we got back they lined us up in front of the grandstands and we started to make our passes. My 1st pass was a 10.09 my second was a 10.02. When I was coming back from the 2nd pass all he sudden my car shuts off. Well in the rules you cant open the hood or hatch at all during this event. I did everything I could without opening the hood or truck until I had no options but to open them. I had plenty of gas so that wasn't the issue, all was good under the hood. I jump back in the car and it fires right up so I race down to the lanes and call the Super Chevy guy over and tell him what was going on and he says make your run and we'll see what happens. The 3rd pass was a 10.03, and no issues after that. I found the Super Chevy guy running the True Street Class and he said you killed them in the 10.0 index but I had to disqualify you because you opened your hood. He said thank you for being honest but rules are rules. So at least I know the car can make it on fuel and runs right on the number for the 10.0 index. It was fun and I would do it again. To anyone that has a fast street car I would recommend this event.

Re: Almost won Super Chevy True Street

Thats Awsome. I was there on Saturday just spectating. There was a good amount of third gen's competing. I was thinking of running in the Super Chevy show next year, maybe thats the class i'll run. I know its a cruise and three runs for an average but than what? How do you actually win? And what do you win?

The true street is part of the DOT bracket class. So after you make the 3 runs for the true street you can run the DOT bracket race as well. The winner of each index gets 100 bucks and a plaque, the over all winner gets 200 bucks. Plus you can brag about it, that's my plan considering guys around here are all out race cars and I am running faster then them.

I have no idea why it cut off on me. It never did it after that. I finally got my old 60' times back with a couple 1.33's but still not as good as my personal best of a 1.31.

Re: Almost won Super Chevy True Street

Hey 11sec92z I was hoping to run into you on here or on one of these sites. I was trying to get over to your car after wards and see how you did. Every time I rode by no one was around your car. Congrats on the win man that's cool. I had the 10 sec field covered with a 10.04 average, but got DQed. No biggy rules are rules and I didn't want to cause a scene with the 2nd place 10 second car. I had a blast with this event and I will be back next year if not later this year at Bristol.

Re: Almost won Super Chevy True Street

I will defiantly be back next year. The week after Super Chevy I ran at our local track for the quick 8 door cars. Only 2 cars entered so they mixed us with the quick 8 dragster field. I won 1st round due to a red light by a dragster and lost 2nd round but still had fun. I may try to go to Cecil County this sat for the street car shoot out. If you have never been to that you have to go at least once. Other then just some of the local stuff nothing as big as the Super Chevy. There is a NMCA/NMRA race at Z-Max that will be doing the True Street race on all 4 lanes. That Nova is very nice my dad actually has a 64 also but his is mostly stock.
