First autocross in formula
I did my first autocross in my formula yesterday and it did very well, better than i thought it would. i have done it before but in a bmw so the firebird was a little different. I raced in cp class and my only competition was a mustang that had the interior stripped with aluminum seat, hoosier tires and not sure what else. He did beat me but only by 2 sec. i fell that if i get some tires i will be pretty close and still have my full interior and ac and radio. haha i had a blast though and im ready to do the next one.

That's awesome man, good job. How was the formula compared to the BMW that you had previously ran? I can't wait to have my car ready for next year.

Sounds like ya had a good time! Thirdgens handle suprisingly well and the torque a V8 car puts out is kick butt for autoX. glad to see another thirdgen driver getting into dodging cones. and sweet formula by the way!

Any tips as far as getting involved in running the cones? Over here they run a road course 2-3 times during the season as well.

If you are in new jersey, it looks like the closest scca regions to you are either
South Jersey region
http://www.sjr-scca.org/
or
Northern New Jersey region
http://scca-nnjr.org/
from there look at when their solo events are. and if you want to go, pre-register.

Yea I was planning on running the NNJR at Englishtown next March. I just meant any tips for actual racing or to prepare for it.

As far as driving, I always like the saying of slow in, fast out.
And most important, have fun!

Thanks. I would definitely take all the precautions and read over the entire rule book first. Now I just need to hit the lottery and my car will be done.

Which Borla cat-back do you have and are those the tips that come on it? I was looking into getting the 3 inch cat-back part # 14888.

I have the borla rear section from a 93-95 LT1 car and those are the stock tips that came with that setup. Tips alone are almost $400, too pricey to buy new by themselves, imo.

How do you like your sportlines? That's a 1.5" drop, isn't it? I'd like to lower my trans am but the skirts worry me as far as street/daily driving go. And what kyb's are you using? I have a new set of gr2's sitting in the garage I found off a wrecked trans am

Re: First autocross in formula
Sportlines are supposed to be almost a 2" drop but mine sits lower than stock but higher than others that have sportlines. Seems like mine sit like the Pro Kit.
I have KYB GR2 struts and KYB Gas-a-just rear shocks, but in another thread a few members don't recommend GR2's with lowering springs, saying that they won't last. I have had the GR2's on the car for probably 5 or 6 years now and they still dampen fine, but the car has a really stiff harsh ride to it with the 17" wheels. When I had 16" GTA wheels the ride was softer due to more tire sidewall.

Re: First autocross in formula
I was thinking about the hotchkis 1" drop kit they have at hawk's. Hoping that will be safe for my side skirts. I plan on getting 17" year one snowflakes eventually but that's very far away. For now it's my stock 16" ws6's. Is there any special stuff I'd have to do to get my alignment right? As in castor/camber plates and all that? Or are these cars already adjustable to that point? I've never lowered one of my own cars before :P

I used to have that same hood you have as well. I ended up swapping it with a member here for the earlier style, which to me flows better on a formula since we have no gfx.
