It was the best of times...
...at the worst of times.
Had the LS1/4L60E out for the third time today, first time with a tach, though. In case you're wondering why I didn't have a tach, it was a scramble just to get it running (see https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...p-17-days.html ).
After figuring out launch and shift points, it was running high 13.2's to low 13.3's. Then, last time trial, it ran a 13.38 when it should have repeated at low 13.3. So, first round, I figured the .38 was a fluke, and dialed a 13.32. My light wasn't so good, but I took the stripe by .02 - only to see the other guy's win light come on. Turns out it ran a 13.251. The other guy had a .040 package, which was about half my light.
I was running two classes, so in the first round of the 2nd class, I figured it wouldn't repeat the .25, so I dialed 13.28. It stumbled out of the hole, ran a 13.53, but it didn't matter because this time the other guy had already gone red. I blamed it on not cooling off enough from the previous pass (the two classes were back-to-back).
2nd round, I kept the 13.28. We both had exactly the same RT, but I took .02-ish stripe again, ran a 13.288 and he was .03 off his dial, so back to the third round.
The air was getting cooler, so I figured I'd better dial down. I wasn't too sure of it, so only went down to 13.27 (he added a hun). I had a slightly better light (by .006), took 0.0298 stripe, and broke out by 0.0300 - ran a 13.240. He broke out by .007, so that was the end of my day.
I guess you could say it had the best of times at the worst times, and the worst time at the best time.
Here's a couple of pics of a time trial launch. 60' about 2.0 sec. The rear stayed pretty much at the same level as static (LCARLB'S in bottom hole).
At the hit (scanner kept putting the shaded lines in on the right, sorry):

It'll be interesting to see what it does in Topeka this coming week at near sea level. The front end looked pretty much like that there last year with the previous 350/TH700 combo (which was .3 slower there than this combo is up here).

The first guy dialed 11.76, the next 12.42, and the third 11.69. In the first and last cases, it felt like losing...
I really like those rims. Light weight, perfect for the 26-9.50x14 Hoosier QTP DOT's, and, like you say, sleepy. Plus, I have 12 of them...

The 2nd class was the "AARP" class - have to be 55 and older to compete in it, 10.00 & slower, no electronics (tranny brakes allowed). There are some pretty good racers in that class. This is the first year I've been eligible to run in it, and, yes, it was a blast.

LOL, still having a good time when you are getting older is what it is about, at least you found something to look forward to age wise!

One of the class participants is an 81-year-old driving a 10.6 sec '81 Malibu with a BBC. He lost 2nd round to the eventual runner-up (also went 2 rounds in the Pro ET class yesterday). He used to have a 9-sec 1st gen Camaro, but built this one a little slower so he didn't have to worry about the license physical.
I'm the young pup in this class.

LOL, that is cool, love to know that even at 81 i will still have others like me racing and beating on cars, by then the SBC and GEN III LS will be obsolete, if not extinct.
