Tire type and size???

What is the best tire type and size to run on both the strip and street. I want to only have the single set of tires. I am probably only running a little over stock 235hp but cannot ever full throttle it in first gear. I have the stock 16" rims for a 1991 camaro Z28. Thanks

If you are gonna stick with the stock rims I'd go with a 245/50/16 in front and 255/50/16 in the rear.
Z rated tires of course.
These are the widest 16" tires with a Z rating made.

I guess finding a happy medium between a street and track tire is a must for some people. When you mention a bigger rim, I hope you mean width. Tall rims make poor drag racing rims. A 15" rim with a tall sidewall is prefered for drag racing. That extra sidewall takes a lot of shock off the drivetrain.

Now if you're autocrossing or roadcoursing, then yes you want a tall rim. The smaller the sidewall, the less tire roll in the corners.

Stephen is right.
You'll need to decide which is more important, straight line's or curves.
Eventually my goal is a high 12's car in the 1/4 mile.
I think it's possible with my combination while still getting great handling also.
It's up to your personal goals.

Wow! Thanks for the info. Anything will be better than the 60 series allseasons on it now but I didn't realize that the rim hight had that much input so I appreciate it!!

well if you want some kick a$$ tires get yokohama AVS intermediates in 245 50 16's. I have them and man you can really launch on them. i pull 60 foot times out here that are pretty much unheard of without slicks or drag radials. they are only 2.0's but with the altitude and the track not ever being preped for raceing it is pretty good. once i heat them up they stick like glue and allow me to hook my 2nd gear shift enough that it does not slow me down and it is a hard shift!!! but be ware if you drive like me they will only last a year.

I would get some Yokohama's or Bridgestone's. I have some Bridgestone Potenza's on my IROC and I love them. Since I bought them my handling has been superb.
