My very first run with my completely stock L03 89 RS was 15.82 and I advanced the timing a little and removed the air cleaner assembly and went 15.68 @ 88 before the day was over.I think the Firebirds are a little heavier, though, and mine is a hardtop car. With a some basic mods, not even spending a lot of money, I've been able to get mine to 14.91 @ 92.8 , but I've been told this is a little faster than average for one of these cars, so yeah, I think 15.90's stock is a good baseline.

Good job.. thats a really good time for a stock L03

and Basset, as youve been told your car is a freak, its most likely an LB9 longblock with a TBI intake. And no, Firebirds are no heavier than Camaros.

I am not sure of the altatude ther.. but I am in TX and it fairly flat... I think it might have had alot to with the temp outside.. it was about 36 outside... I got that time without even getting good grip and a busted tranny mount too.. BTW it is a A4 car peg-leg and all with 2.73's and if it makes a differance I had to run with my headlights up too..

MrJ my car is a freak!! You're right about these not being L03 heads (the #187 castings). But they're not #081's either. I just couldn't stand not knowing any longer, so popped of the driver's side valve cover this morning, and to my surprise, I read #10159553. I found this head in a block/head casting book I have, but it had no info on them, except that it was used on 87-95 305's, so it IS a 305 I guess. Does any body know what head this is? Could it possibly be a truck head? What was the factory HP rating on 305 TBI trucks?? Did the truck engine get the peanut cam?? This engine was replaced in by a Chevy dealer in 1998. I also found in the book, that in 97-98 they made a Vortec 305, they called it Vortec 5000, and these heads had a casting #12552520,and the book stated they had 1.84"/1.50" valves. I wonder if they would cost around the same as a Vortec 350 head?? hhmmmm - a Vortec headed 305 might be pretty quick, especially since since my bottom end only has 27K miles on it - it would worth it to me buy a set if they're cost was around the same as the Vortec 350 head, and if they flowed comparably. I'm going to research this some more, and let you all know more as I find it out.

congrats on the time. it is a pretty good base line. it isn't as uncommon as most people think for an lo3 to run in the 15's right out of the box. mine ran 15.988@84.79mph when i first got it.

On average Birds are slightly heavier than Camaro's.

More options come standard on the Bird than on the Camaro.

Headlight's on the Bird add a little.

Power antenna does too.

It's not a lot of difference on average maybe 15-35 pounds more for the Bird.

Way to go!
