Chevy 327

What do you guys feel a rebuilt stock 300 Hp 327 in a 82 Trans Am would run on a 1/4. What about with a few mods? Will I have clearance problems with the air cleaner and hood being a high rise intake. Thanks James

A 327 is more of a road race engine. It should do well in the quarter though. But, I have to say: **** !!! I want that motor!!!
OK, sorry, I just had to get that out. Go for it though.

I know alot of people are telling me it will work good for me. It will be for my Trans Am and will only go to the strip once (I have to see what it can do) and will be put in just for driving around town and a little street racing here and there. The engine cost me $300 with the High Perf. 2.02 heads (all origianl) and everything that you could think of (carb to oil pan). But it needs rebuilt.

327s are fun little motors. My friend had one in his 67 camaro. They like to rev quickly, have good throttle response, and are a lot of fun. Enjoy it.

I have a 1968 Chevy II with a 327 with 305 horsepower. The car has a TH350 and 3.08 rearend. The curb weight of the Chevy is 2900lbs exactly and it runs anywhere from 13.4 at 108 mph to 13.8 at 104 mph

327s are great engines, i think maybe my favorite SBC. they tend to like higher RPM ranges. i had a 327/350 in a 66 chevy II ,the famous L79 engine. i have a 336 in my old car now ,runs strong. i'm thinking bill jinkins prefered the 327 to other SBCs.

The 327 is a great engine. I have a few myself and I have toying the idea of putting one in my 89 RS. Is your's a small journal 64-67 or is it a large journal 68-69??? What casting number is on the heads?? The #186, #292 (factory over the counter hi-perf head) and the #492's are a little more "user friendly" in that they already have accessory holes in the heads. If it's small journal engine it has a steel crank, which is a plus, but it has smaller slightly weaker rods. I recommend this on all rebuilds, but on Small journal rods especially, Do you self a favor and spend $35.00 on a set of ARP rod bolts - This will be the cheapest insurance you will ever buy!!

Hi,

I have two engines wich I can swap into my 86 T/A. My T/A currently has 305HO (L69 with hyd. roller). My brother was offering me a fresh 350 (rebuilt) from a Corvette (~86), and we have ~67-69 327 liing in our garage. Wich engine would you choose?

Thanks,

Nonni

I'd go with the 350 if you want more power. If you want to have just a fun car then the 327 is what I would swap in. Not too many 327 thirdgens. I bet when I'm done with the 350 swap 5 people on the board will have the same thing, a 327 will be cool. 4" bore just a shorter stroke than the 350, that is why it likes the high rpms. Just like the ford 4.9L v8 (aka 5.0 but it isn't, you do the math 302...). It's a simple saying, no replacement for displacement and my friend feels that way right now. He has a 327 in his 69 maro with 370hp n.a. but he wants more power. He's going to build up a 350 with 450hp, best part is it's going to still be his daily driver.

Dale Earnhart, you have done so much, you will be missed.

I have to agree, im running a highly modded 327, smal journal motor, and road race it. the only disadvantage is i have an 82 with the 4 speed. i cant keep it in any gear to fast becouse it just wants to run right thourgh it as it revs so quick. i love it for street racing great mottor. cant wait to see how it will do with the t56 now :O)

I put a sbc in this 86 ta but, be fore putting it in I ran the block numbers 3970010 it showed up as hi performance 350 or 327 block well it came from a truck so I asumed it is a 350 but, alls I did was switched the intake to the 86 used the 86 manifolds and hooked it all up like it was gave the motore some advance and it just burns those tires it was a really slow car before it even has 2.73 gears and the guy is going for 410s and headers for starts.
