First time at the track this year

For all you l03 haters out there, i finally got my 305 in the 8's in the 1/8th mile. I started the day with a 9.219 @ 78.95 mph and ended the day with a 8.716 @82.27 mph its a 92 with 80,000 miles. Its got 062 vortec heads ported, a 779 lt1 cam, 1.6 roller rockers, edelbrock rpm intake , aed 650 h.o. carb, flowtech shorty headers and y pipe, dynomax ultraflow cat back exhaust no cat, and a 3:73 posi with 26x10.5x16 mickey thompson et streets. i have been working on this since i joined 3rd gen and finally i got it respectable. Guys at the track were shocked when i said it was a 305. Oh ya and i beat an ls1 gto also.

Re: First time at the track this year

there is nothing lo3 about your car anymore

but good passes! that mph is good for 8.3's or better.

Nice job I would be curious to see what it does in the 1/4, that sounds like a solid mid 13 second car. Looks like there is a room for improvement in the 60' is it dead hooking?

Re: First time at the track this year

i just guessed on $1000 so i figured it out. Y pipe $122, Timming set $38, Head gaskets $68, gaskets for intake and timing set $34, ARP intake bolts $20, 1.6 roller rockers $250, Smog pump delete pulley $50, AED carb $505, Walbro 250 fuel pump $120, Edelbrock rpm used $50, Shortie headers used $50, #779 lt1 cam used $50, #062 vortec heads new unused traded for a paint job, porting of vortec heads traded for a paint job. So i spent $1357 on parts and traded some labor and if you have real world skills you can trade labor for what you need if you know the right people and can save a lot of money.

Re: First time at the track this year

he dosent have the know how to do real indepth mods.i.e heads cam, trying to convice him that it would be better for him to just go buy a good 350 out of the junkyard and swap it inplace of his 305 and do bolton stuff like headers,ex system etc

hell even just buying a stock vortec 350 and then spending the 400 on a vortec tpi base would be better then the 305

Re: First time at the track this year

I agree with that. I only did what i did because i know how to do that stuff plus i needed to do the carb swap when i get a 350 or 383 and my car only has 80,000 original miles.

Nice work. Was talking to another member who is running an LT1 intake swap on his 305, and he's pushing 300-RWHP with plenty left in it. Are you gonna stick with the carb, or go back to some form of fuel injection later on...?

Re: First time at the track this year

I swapped out the factory lo3 for a 350 tbi truck motor. No vortec. Just a plain tbi deal hand ported the intake and had a mild summit brand cam and my car went a string of 13.0s With the vortec set up may have run much better but limited by the tbi. Once u ditch the poor tbi heads cam etc it's no longer a lo3. Add some cubes and it will run
