finally made it to the track
Made it to the track tonight... needless to say im very disappointed
First pass was the fastest pass and the car was running so rich it was bogging so badly by the third pass we packed up to and left
1st pass 13.36 @ 103
2nd pass 13.41 @103
3rd 13.88 @ 100
First 2 passes 60 foots were 1.85s and 3rd was 2.0
Pretty depressed about it but i am adding a blower in the next couple weeks and wanted to get a baseline.. so i didnt jet it down even though i would have picked up et

Re: finally made it to the track
Jets Are most likely too big, when i had smaller jets in it, it didnt pull as hard as it did now. The wideband read full rich and was 11.7:1 by the traps.. since im going blower i will just have the carb shop make me one and it should be pretty damn close out of the box.
It also bogs pretty badly out of the hole so i know it can 60 foot better and easily be in the 12s

When you going back? Should be much better if you line out the fuel, you already know.

Well it was a baseplate gasket, so i will try to make it with this set up again... the soonest ill be able to go is the 17th. I am going to try like hell to get it under 12.50s.
Also i am using the wrong plugs, vortecs take a longer reach plug so ill give that a whirl too
... and pick up a line lock lol

Sorry to hear about the times! I struggled too at first and was right where you were at. Few modifications and some tuning and you see where i am at now. I'm sure you'll be moving alot faster with a blower anyway, lol.

Man we have been making some progress on this board lately! Get those little issues worked out and get back to the track man, that thing should be way into the 12s.

Re: finally made it to the track
I was thinking about this too as it seems pretty loose
Dad just ordered the msd atomic system so ill see how that works for him
And greg it does suck, the car next to me ran a 13.10 with a 1.96 60foot.. he also trapped 103 so i know the car has easy 12s in it

Dad keeps trying to talk me out of the blower and buy a new transmission and 4k stall instead. He thinks i will kick myself in the *** if i never know what the set up was fully capable of... what do you guys think?

What does the tire/gear/converter situation look like? Also, what, if any, suspension miss?

Suspension.. adjustable torque arm, lcarbs in middle hole, lower control arms, and air bags at 8 psi
Thats it for now. I dont know if a set of 90/10s would be a good investment for up front?
It spins out of the hole every time also

Re: finally made it to the track
I think you have alot more in your combo. I think it depends on how fast you wanna go? 11's youll be fine, but 10's all motor is probably out of the question.
Also i go between my month old 26" 275/50/15 tires and my 4 year old worn out 28" tires and i pull 1.6x 60 foots with both consistently and run the same mph. Not sure how or why, it just works. Also the only suspension mods i have are sfc's and lca's with relocation brackets (in the middle hole) and a panhard bar.

I know my compression is hurting me? Who makes a set of heads that will raise my compression from roughly 9.3 to 11? Obviously aluminum and at least a 195 runner. I can only find 55cc combustion chambers for l98

It could just be the track too, it is larue we are talking about. The track has no tech inspection and has small potholes going through the traps

5 years old? throw them away.
a better track would help, but you're down on mph...that thing should go 108 or better. so double check WOT. where is timing set at?

Well that atomic system is a piece of garbage... taking it back to jegs
I'm not sure what to do at this point as i have wasted so much money for all the other stuff for it.

Re: finally made it to the track
I put it on and I fouled 3 sets of plugs and it never ran. The bad part is the msd tech line told me it was timing related which I drove it into the garage before I started the swap. I suppose ill be switching back to carbed.
Oh I had spark and fuel, it was like it gave too much fuel at one time and flooded the engine. When I called jegs to tell them I was bringing it back their response was " oh great, another one"

Hold the phone...
The gas I put in the tank, had water in it. A month prior a tree smashed through the roof of the shop and the gas cans were laying under the hole. Needless to say I couldn't light the gas with a torch.
I'm going to try to put it back on today

Re: finally made it to the track
well i got it back on and it runs!!!!!
it drives very smooth and better than the carb did. it idles at 750 very well.
i got the injector duty cycle error so i had to turn the regulator pressure up. it said 400hp engines start at 60psi. i started at 55psi and i just turned it up to 60 psi. it would spit and sputter when i was all the way in it.
after i get the bugs worked out im sure it will be flawless. i got a video and will try to upload it now

Re: finally made it to the track
Those systems are great I have installed them for customers but they always seems to take a while to sort themselves out on the higher HP vehicles. Definitely not as fast acting as you would think!
Though it sounds like a couple minor jet changes and some suspension adjustments and you maybe could have netted alot better time for less money spent. But hey the atomic system should work well for future upgrades!

Awesome! I'm excited to see your times. We can compare the newer technologies in your system, to the old style q-jet in mine. If yours runs good, i might have to invest in one one of these days, lol.

Will be making it to the track again tomorrow. It will be the last time going t.o the track with this motor. Dad is putting his chevelle back to stock and wants my mild motor for his 383, also giving me his tci 350 trans with brake and 4k stall. Should put me deep in the 11s
Re: finally made it to the track
There was a guy in the Alt Intake forums that was having all sorts of tuning issues with his vortec and his plugs were the wrong reach (like you said yours was.) That really freaks things out.

Well I didn't get to run it, the car was sputtering again. I figured it out though, its vapor lock. My fuel filter is holding heat from the exhaust. Going to wrap the exhaust and filter
