Cant get hooked up

Hey fellas im in need of some help getting my car to hook up. Its a stock suspension camaro with a sb/th400, it runs mid 10s with 60foots from 1.41 to 1.55
I leave on the transbrake at 4200rpm ,whippes the tires around 2 or 3 times then goes. I had 3 way comp engneering shocks on the back and stock preloaded sway bar. I junked that stuff for qa1 double adjustables and wolfe sway bar, but not tested yet. Shocks are 0 rebound 12 compression.
Theres 90/10s and moroso trick spings in the front, copy of s&w torque arm, lca's in the bottom hole and 28x10 hoosier slicks.
Am i headed in the right direction with the shocks and arb? Should i have a shorter torque arm with a lower powered car?to hit the tires that much harder?

Re: Cant get hooked up

Why 4200 on the brake? What converter is in it? Did you always leave there?

I leave at 3500 with my 355...and it goes the same 60' as leaving at 3100..just does a better wheelstand.

Id look into some fresh tires...see if thats an issue...

Re: Cant get hooked up

These cars are too heavy to run anything but a stiff sidewall and expect them to last more than 40 or so passes.

Re: Cant get hooked up

A 28x10.5Stiff would last 100+ on my car. The radials last about 40-60 before the tread is gone. The non-stiff would beat the Sidewalls out of them before the tread would be gone.

Re: Cant get hooked up

Tires have to be done...if they used to work and not now. Nose heavy cars need all the help they can get for traction. I thought my radials were gone...balanced the car and it launched better than before...and i added 100# to the rear of the car.

Re: Cant get hooked up

i am not a believer in the sidewalls going away thing.... yet. ran standard sidewalls for probably around 100 passes or so with no signs of going away. i run a s&w torque arm as well as moroso front springs. i would say that if your car is spinning at the release of the transbrake, you should try to move the lca's lower to make it hit the tire harder. i normally ran 12lbs of air in my hoosier 28x10.5's.

Re: Cant get hooked up

This summer i tryed a shorter tq arm. 25 inches from the front tq arm bolt in length. I had the best traction with this set up but it was hit and miss and the tires where new then.
Then i tryed the pete z bars and that was a complete failure, Spinning everytime.
Both set up where with the cheap shocks and stock sway bar. Ill try stiff sidewall tires and go from there.

Stiff sidewalls all the way, try tubes as well.. I would also agree with sidewalls being shot, mine go very quickly in my stick car, and had same issue in 87 when Auto.. I have pics with 12 lb of air and wheel almost on pavement on launch - however short tq arm also.

I did a couple things to help separation in my 87, stock location of LCA's and lowered rear, mine would separate till shocks fully extended.. If still issues get single adjustable shocks as they control extension not compression..
Nice launch.

Re: Cant get hooked up

mine seperates like that if it does a wheelstand. if it stays down its normally ok. i think when the car is at such an angle, the rear tires try to run out from under the car and thats why it seperates so much.

Re: Cant get hooked up

what torque arm is in the car? i noticed that the short torque arm cars (like mine, running a jegster) would seperate more than a longer torque arm...wonder if there is anything to that?

Re: Cant get hooked up

I copied off the s&w tq arm. Its 53 inches from the front bolt hole to the heim joint in front i think. I used a slider instead of a shackle, you can see part of the tq arm crossmember in the pucture.

Re: Cant get hooked up

Do you get any front end wobble that you can feel in the steering wheel after the front vines down I have similar front end setup and mine shakes like crazy if I really get aggressive off the line. Are u running a steering stabilizer?

You running s 10 steering box? Im running p/s box with lines looped thinking the slop in the box is causing my really bad wobble. All new front suspension/ steering parts too

Haha thats funny...not really..but mine just shakes like 2 degrees left then right in a split second then fine. Actually lands easier now that it goes up higher

I think a lot has to do with your engine trans and gear combo...makes it drive out and down easier on the car...or a poor combo drops like a ton of bricks. Limiters may make yours perfect.
