First results 5.3 swap 85 TA
Rundown is a full weight 85 TA with a stock high mile 5.3(00 model). Performer intake, 750 VS carb, bbk shorty 4th gen headers, run to 3 inch I pipe, to dual exit straight pipe. Car has only a glass hood. Trans is a stock th350 and stock converter. Rear is a gov lock 3.23, on 26x11.5x16 ET streets.
Went 9.2 at 81 mph with a 2.1 60 foot. This was the drivers first outing ever.
So, he cannot wait to get the 3000 converter we have in, but no idea when some gears will be in its future. 60 foot is just horrible, but that little motor makes no TQ where it starts pushing.

Just curious but how much do you think he will shave off his time with a converter and gears?

Well, the 60 foot times will drop, causing total ET to be a significant increase. Off the top if he managed a 1.8 60 foot, he should be at least 8.8 to as low as 8.6 if it really likes the power range an mechanical advantage of the rear gearing. This motor actually smokes pretty good, so it is probably plenty down on power, so she is far from optimal.

3000 stall speed and a mechanical secondary will wake it up, even with the 3.23s

Yea, he would have to find a 650 mech. I'll see what we can pull together. The 3000 alone will help plenty.

Re: First results 5.3 swap 85 TA
Almost put a 2006 5.3 with the edelbrock dual plane intake and a holley 680 VS in my brothers 1980 Corvette. Instead we put my healthy little 312 with 059 305 vortecs and a single plane under the holley 680. 3,000 stalled powerglide with factory 3.07 gears. Ran a 9.30 on factory sized tiny rubber with some wheel spin and a 2.30s 60'. I have since located a TH350 and am in the process of rebuilding it. Should help get it out of the hole a little better, but right now the car is a solid street cruiser that still suprises alot of other newer vehicles. 60 mph in first gear is pretty fun.

Well Matt, your car would be a much greater result with the engine, this TA is just getting started. I wonder what it will do when gears ect are in.
Your car will be a blast with the t56.
