sucking at the strip as we speak

the last time I raced was back in 2007. I was running 14.0s in new jersey and low 14s in texas. my car had a blown posi.

Over the course of the past seven years, I havent raced. I installed an auburn racers posi.

Then I drove the car for a while when it was stuck in open loop. The car then sat a lot. the open-loop problem turned out to be a bad oxygen sensor and a bad fuel injector.I replaced the valve guide seals, all the fuel injectors, and the oxygen sensor. I also installed a spohn torque arm.

I'm at the drag strip In south Georgia tonight. I figured I'd be running high 13s with the torque arm and posi. Instead, im cranking out 14.6s, with one 14.45. Ive also had a couple runs where I spun a lot, resulting in a 14.8 and 14.9.

Why am I sucking?

Thoughts...

First, I'm racing on a full tank of fuel. In the past, I've run the tank down for weight reduction.

second, its pretty warm down here.

third, in order to install the torque arm, the mechanic had to cut out part of my y pipe. There apparently are no mandrel bending exhaust places around here, so I had to settle with a crush bent solution.

Fourth, the way this track is set up, I have to drive through the burn out water on my street tires.

It could be possible that you are having a time laps transmission issue from the green light to the time that your foot presses the go pedal.

Just have fun... do your best hands take notes to go back and work on things....

I thought the quarter mile time did not include the reaction time?

Correct, reaction time has nothing to do with the 1/4 mile time.

Compare your 60' times between the last times and this time. Is your mph the same? A posi and a torque arm may not necessarily make your car faster, should make it 60' better (and thus run better in the 1/4), but if you aren't 60'ing better don't expect better times in the 1/4.

14.0 ain't that bad for being "fairly" stock engine wise.

Re: sucking at the strip as we speak

what is the mph from last time to now? That will be the best indication of power. without having a comparison of that, and the weather conditions, it's really hard to compare.

Re: sucking at the strip as we speak

SGMP is a great track. but it's almost May in SOUTH GEORGIA....i bet it's 90's and 90+% humidity down there. water grain count is through the roof i bet...it's like racing in a steam room. no comparison to the dry heat in texas, and the awesome air in general that new jersey sees.

i too would like to see a whole timeslip posted from all locations for proper comparison.

X2, but...
On test and tune night they also won't say anything to you about driving through the water with street tires.

I think the poster needs more powah!

Converter and sticky tires is the fastest way to lower et.

Re: sucking at the strip as we speak

Those times seem about right to me. When my car had similar mods I was running similar times. The TPI setup and the 3.23 gears aren't helping your case up at the track. How many miles does the motor have?

If you're looking for more traction, then I'd look into some new tires. Sounds like you've got the suspension and a posi, so tires would be my next recommendation. Your 60' time is a good indication of your traction. Compare time slips to see why they are inconsistant (weather, traction, adjustments, lane choice, launch RPM, coolant temp, altitude, etc.) I think there are some good Density Altitude tools online to help compare times in different weather conditions.

Re: sucking at the strip as we speak

Definetely any extra weight like the gas tank being full etc. can make a difference and certainly the humidity. Still even at 14.4 on a pretty much stock engine is not bad at all. About on par with what ive seen in this humid weather in MS.

Re: sucking at the strip as we speak

Thanks for your help, guys!

Motor is under 60,000 miles.

Unfortunately, I don't have any timeslips from back in the day.
