Anyone have pics of their drag race header/sub frame connector combo? We need to tie the frame and get some new haeders for a 88 GTA with gen 1 327/turbo 400 bracket car. Currently has rusted out shorty headers & glass packs mounted right under the front subframe where it angles in. Very little ground clearance. Also has a home made cross member for the th400. The engine is fairly mild & car has tall gears so, not too much rpm on the top end. I think 1 5/8' tubes will be fine, but not sure which would work best for ground clearance.

 

This is primarily a street car.
Those are Hedman headers model which most people call a long tube (LT) but in reality is a mid-length header. The y-pipe you see gets (will get) removed and replaced with collector extensions of the same routing. About 18" long. The cross member has been notched and reinforced for additional ground clearance. The subframe connectors are Spohn's. They're a perimeter style which follow the rockers. They're are additional bars which tie the rocker rails to the front subframe.

 

Thank you for the quick reply. Do you have a part number for the headers? I will probably fab a new cross member. The factory one is long gone.

 

Also, is that a mini starter? Looks like you might have to remove one header to remove the trans.

 

The headers are Hedman 68460. I should point out that I cut off the ball flange connector and welded on a typical 3-bolt flange. It made the fabrication of the y-pipe and it's attachment simpler (for me).
Yes, that's a mini starter. Nothing special though. I'm going through my notes looking for the application but I can't find it. It's a Champion starter P/N 9989S (but that comes up empty with an internet search).
The headers were installed during a couple of trans swaps. What I failed to pay attention to was giving enough clearance around the trans pan so I could do service without dropping the y-pipe.
