Frustration sets in...

OK, here's a problem for you guys:

I need another tranny because the other got so messed up (

Does anyone have a line on a good condition V-8 T-5 that I can get today/ tomorrow? The salvage yard guy can't get one for what I can spend, and I need to get the car back on the road this weekend, I'm running out of rides to work/school!!

I know I'm new here, but not new to the F-body scene and I hope someone here can help!

Thanks,
Paul

Do it RIGHT, do it ONCE. Get a Tremec. If you HAVE to get around get a cheap "beater car" that you can dump quickly while you are waiting for your tranny.

I got quoted $200 for onw the other day, It's a deal from a scrap yard that I know from work. I might still be able to get it if you want to come down this far.

Paul... you live close enough to everett I would think to be able to call a Pull A Part or Best Auto (Lynwood and Everett) ... see what they have, there are a few yards around here and in Woodinville that may be able to get ya one for a low cost

What places have you looked at? Have you looked at any of the Everett/Lynnwood wrecking yards?

Well, first of all, I checked every yard between BC and Lynnwood, the only one that HAD the right one was Fleury's and that just went out the door day before I needed it!!
Began an exchange with Fleury's and Ed's Tranny shop (where Mike is my hero!!) and it came down to this:
I get a rebuidable core from F., bring it down to Ed's, Mike rebuilds it, using parts as required. Then I get both trannies back, put mine in, and if the other is still good, I bring back to F. and get part of my $ back! So far, so good, now if only the parts will interchange....!!!
Wish me luck on this guys, I'm bound to have a turn for the better! I may be able to drive my car in to work on Tues!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the positive energy, and suggestions!

Paul

What exactly is wrong with the tranny in the first place?

Hey! Looks like we're back up!

The problem it was having in the beginning was: it wouldn't go into first. The shifter would go into the 1st position, but when I released the clutch, it would just grind. After consulting with Bob Hanlon of Hanlon Motorsports (T-5 expert!) I bought a rebuild kit, new 1-2 slider, and new 1-2 shifter fork. Evidently, although I did a good job of the rebuild, 1 little tiny thing got thrown out of whack on initial startup and threw the rest of the main cluster out of alignment enough to grind off the OD gears, and the damage cascaded from there.
I brought it down to a good tranny shop where the tech went thru it and told me the damage, which was about the same as getting another used tranny. That's what I've been trying to do for the last week or so!
I have since been able to get another rebuildable core and the tech is going to use the parts he needs and I just bring back whatever is left back to salvage yard, where I can get some of my $ back! (fingers crossed!)
Trying to find another 5 spd. up here for less than $500 has been a nightmare though! It seems that every yard has a lot of Camaro/ Firebirds in it, but they are all autos! (Damn, doesn't anyone like to stir their own gears anymore?!!)
Hopefully today.....!

Paul

atleast I'm not the only mathafakka with a 5speed now

I know how ya feel about the transmissions for a low cost... I got mine off of a guy on ebay who rebuilds T5's daily... hehe except this one he rebuilt so it'd actually last on a 350 (and if it doesn't he'll replace de sumbitch)

OK! So give me some specs already!
How much, how long did it take, and does he have more?!!! gimmegimmegimme!!!

T-5's are SO much more fun than autos, at least when they are working...!

Hopefully, tomorrow afternoon...just found out that he (Mike) won't even be able to start on it until this aft./tomorrow AM at the earliest But tomorrow, it'll be in, come hell or high water!!!! dammmit!

Thanks for bearing with me guys, and letting me vent, etc.!

Wrong again, The 86 Z I just bought now sports a 350 and when I find the sumbitch flywheel I need I'll have a 350, T-Top, T-5 86 Z28. (power nothing)

I sold the 87 RS to some guy (less the 396) so the 350 is going to have to last untill I can get the 396 rebuilt and aquire a T-56

*LOL* ACtually Aaron, Technically I had a Manual at the OS gathering. Just because it was in the trunk of my Neon means nothing. On another note, I got the clutch kit for my Camaro Friday and now need to get the slave and master clutch cylinders, pedal assembly center console part with shifter boot and shifter *nudge* Oh. Clutch fork would help. Then toss those suckers in there and my car can drive. of course there's absolutely no interior in there right now... But why sweat the little details?

Well guys, guess what? I got the tranny in tonight!!!!!! Nnoooowwwww I remember why I like these cars!!!!

Once again, I must give kudos to Ed's Transmissions in Marysville, State St. specifically, Mike there. Perry is the manager and the whole crew made me feel like my tranny was as important to them as to me! Highly recommended!!

OK, the promo spot is done! There's an annoying smell coming up now, but I'm thinking that just might be some of the high temp grease I put on the rear seal and on the new throwout bearing. I'll give it a couple of days before I start getting worried!

Thanks for all your suggestions and bearing with me while I vented!

I may make the gathering in BC yet! (still gotta talk the spouse out of some funds though!)

Later,
Paul

Oh yeah! Unfortunately, my EE-352 class doesn't get out until 10PM and for Sat. I have to go to kiddo's v-ball game and then go to study group in the aft.(this Adv ****. is kicking my a$$!!) I guess I'll have to wait until next time!

Went to the yard yesterday during lunch and picked up a pair of the early WS-6 rims, not the later ones like you have Derek, but better than the Centerlines I had! I need to find the back pair now, then I'll be golden! I'll still be looking at getting yours though in the future, if you're still willing to part with them!
