Just because I'm ****ing bored and need to rant...
I'ma post about my Z28...
I bought it in March of 2000 ... I didn't get the title changed over until November 2000...
When I first bought it... the tranny was going ... or atleast it seemed to be, the bellhousing was cracked and I think the throwout bearing was slipping too much... 1st gear only worked half the time, reverse was a bitch to do (because of the bellhousing) ...
so whats the first thing I do? Well, not being able to drive a manual well enough to know better, and having a slipping transmission, I backed over the pile of rocks it had been parked on (damn parents) ... I held it in reverse because it would slip out ... and I latched the sonnuvabitch onto my moms Suburban... and I didn't notice it because I was going down the rock by that point and it latched on very slowly... my drivers side fender ends up twisting inward a bit and by the time I realize I've hooked myself on the Suburban, I've drug the thing over a foot (it was in park, I was in reverse)... the suburban is late 70s, with the iron 454... think about that.
So from that mishap I now have 2 bad fenders and a torn nose that now sorta sags more than it did before ...
When I bought it, the dash was a bit ruined and the passenger side door had a few cracks in the skin, the fender was ripped from the frame because of the lift it was on awhile before. The engine is a built 350, edelbrock heads, intake manifold, cam, etc... Performer RPM package.. and 1407 carb (750cfm) Transmission was the stock T5 from 83... Interior was camel (tan) ... the front seats were gray and complete ****, the rear seats were the stock vinyl tan(VERY ****ing comfortable for sitting outside on... )... and I had LAP BELTS on the front seats ... the exhaust is L69 exhaust manifolds, Y pipe to Muffler (no cat) ... and nice big fat pipes all the way back. It also had a set of Centerlines... 215 on the front, 305 on the rear (yes, 305 tires)... and even with a slipping transmission I STILL had traction problems with them
Also, No Horn, radiator sorta going to ****, etc
I bought this Z28 for $500 in that condition
Things I bought after I got the Z28
Stock Z28 wheels with near brand new tires on them for $200 ...
Race Built T5 transmission for $600 with lifetime warranty (and don't ANY of you tell me the T5 won't last)
New Dash, Dash Pad, Ground Effects, Side Mirrors, Gray Seatbelts (I sold em), gray doorpanels because they were free, dome light, and a few other things for another $150
Pair of front seats for $25, another 85mph gauge cluster for $10
I installed the front seats. they suck but they do the job till I get my new ones.
After I bought the transmission, I bought a Zoom multi-friction clutch for $200, and a B&M Ripper Shifter for $150.
I also bought a pair of summit headers I never put on... and probably won't ever put on because of my new exhaust idea I wanna do... but if I do use the headers I'll put a purple horny in place of my current muffler... so thats $75 there.
More recently, I bought a pertronix flamethrower HEI distributor tuneup kit... $120, best thing I ever bought and installed... Worth the money...also got NGK spark plugs and some generic Champion plug wires for $40
a few weeks ago I bought an electric radiator fan ($80), line lock ($65), shifter **** for my ripper ($20), and a carb rebuilt kit ($40 with extra parts).
So... Into my Z28 including the price I bought it for and getting the new tabs/title changed over, $2300.
Now for the kicker:
Within the next week I'm buying the following:
My new seats ~ $75
Radiator ~ $200
Fluids and all that fun ****.
Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake Manifold (or equivalent) ~ $175-$200
brake lines to install my linelock ~ $5
replacement muffler or glasspack ~ $25
Black Carpet ~ Free
Aluminum waterpump ~ $150
Here is what I still need to make this goddamn thing legal though.
I need seatbelts that aren't just lapbelts in the front. I need a horn if I'm to pass visual inspections... I'm also going to have to find a hood I can trust VERY soon ... I don't trust my old stock fiberglass one but may end up using it just because.
Here is what I need to make this thing somewhat closer to finished:
New Suspension ~ No less than $1000 (all spohn)
New Rearend ~ Also no less than $1000 (Going to Randy's Ring and Pinion for a complete one with 28 spline axles and a series 3 carrier, 3.73 gearing, etc).
Disc brakes for the rear, and new brakes for the front as well ~ couple hundred bucks or more...
Centerline Galaxy wheels... 16x8 front, 16x10 or a little larger rear (going to 305s again or maybe 315s) ~ $900 for the set
Tires (duh) ~ about $1200 give or take.
Frontend ~ Nose, Fenders, Headlight bar/brace whatever the **** that is, and hood (I want a bigblock hood, fully functional) ... new that'd cost another $1000 minus the hood, used I dunno what it'd cost me yet... hood is another $450
New passenger side door ~ $???
New door hinges (upper and lower with new pins) ~ $130
I also have to get my roof welded... NEAT HUH!? I have to pull the antenna thingy thats in it, and i'm going to get the stress cracks (since i have a hardtop) touched up/
Get the interior sandblasted and repainted (red, it'll all be covered in black though) when I get hole welded.
Pull the engine, weld in new battery trays since mine are ****, have the complete engine bay rewired, get a new master cylinder, new power steering pump/box, etc.
Have the engine painted black with red valve covers and a red waterpump.
After that? well...
EXTERIOR PAINT!! (after I get the hood)
Black with red ground effects (that fade into black with a spray of blood around the quarter panels, because I'm like that).
The hood will have a Fallen Angel (Demon) with black wings and a red tinged skin, crushing a fading golden halo in one hand, and holding a bleeding rose in the other. (that will be the center of the bigblock hood)... the stinger will be painted red and the lip around the opening (both front and back) will have a red pinstripe wrapping it. Along the sides of the "cowl" ... in mock iroc-Z lettering I'm going to have Demon-Z done in red.
I'm still debating having something on the sides.
Racing strips? doubtful.
And I aim to please, and also to disappoint... I am NOT, and will not ever upgrade the frontend to 85+, nor will I do the ground effects to 85+... I am also not going to get that highrise spoiler on the 91-92 Z28's much to everyones wishes. I'm keeping the lip spoiler... I am also not changing the goddamn taillights to the grid style, i do not like those therefore do not want them and will never get them.
Headlight pockets? ehh, I might do those in red, to go with the rest of it, but I dunno yet.
When I get the chance and money, I'm going to get a Demon 850 carburetor, and possible an intercooled Procharger supercharger (for use with the carburetor)... by that time I'll also do a T56 in it
After I finish the 83 Z28... my next project will either be an all-alluminum 666 CI merlin bigblock 83 Z28 with a T56, 365 rear tires, tubbed of course, 4.11 gears, or I will restore my uncles 1971 Hemi Charger (He would have wanted it that way)...
For those of you who want to argue I won't do it or my plans will change? think again, I do NOT give up that easilly... on ANYTHING... be it love and relationships, or my dreams and hopes for my Camaro.
My sig says it all. I'll leave it at that.

When I took my Vette through State inspection they simply cross-checked the engine code against the body code and made me remove the headlight and tail light blackouts. It was pretty funny too because all these really quite cars were going into the garage area and I was just coasting down hill. Then when it was my turn I cranked it over and VROOOOOOMMM!!!! The blower is whining at full pitch and the exhaust is howling.
Kind of spiced up the place a bit, you know?

if I get a racing stripe it'll be like ghost flames... but it'll be in red, and it sure as **** won't be a flame...
and if I do it, that means my pinstripping will go the same way.

Usually DESCENT camaros have flames or something because they're likely falling off a cliff. A DECENT camaro may or may not have a custom paint job.
Please! NO! No stripes on my Z!!! It looks too clean and stripes or flames on it would make it look??? not good, not clean... Not that stripes or flames are not cool, just on my car, i prefer the clean look. How about a TA bird on the hood
Just kidding.
Just kidding. Don't get me wrong, the birds look good on the TA's, but not on the Z28's
! As far as stripes go, I think with the iroc blue it's just not a good match! I like the stock look because that's where you get the sleek sleeper
And I like the pearl iroc blue anyway! We gotta do some more racing in mid summer!

You've obviously never seen Blues car then, Craiger. Its that IROC blue w/ white stripes... and about every time I see it I almost end up w/ white stuff in my pants.
But your car looks very nice without stripes, those Z28 hood blisters have go to be some of the best looking ones put on Thirdgens.
