Wow this sucks

I'm going to make this short because I am disturbed by it.

I totalled my car last night. It was raining out and I was going up a slight hill before a bend and just as I was starting to curve left I gave some gas, my car downshifts, and starts to go sideways then hops the median into oncoming traffic and a small truck smokes my right rear quarter. Everyone walked away with minor injuries luckily.

Cops gave me a ticket for undue care and attention. What can I expect from icbc? I know with their new system my rates from 20% discount are going to be a huge surcharge. If I'm going to buy another car I'd like to get another f-body but I dont think I can afford insurance coming up for college. This really sucked.

That sucks dude Getting a ticket is even worse that just a slap in the face if ya ask me. What year/model etc.. was your car? You might consider a V6 manual F-Body (if the insurance isn't too bad) which should be much cheaper on insurance than a V8. You have collision insurance? Once again that sucks dude.

Thanks for the support guys...

I think I will get a 5spd next time, that way I can control when my car shifts.

Any tips on what matters about my car's value? It did need some body work, but I had it running very good. Its a downer than I just made my brakes all brand new, and I was even thinking of doing the struts this weekend.

Insurance on an RS isn't all that bad, apparently its not considered as sporty as the iroc or z28 partly because the base rs has a v6. If anyone has heard differently please correct me.

I should have posted my signiture but hadn't edit'd it yet. Good idea though Stormshadow.

I'll describe the damage a bit. The truck's front end was completely crushed.. his motor went from a 2.5L(or whatever) to a 1.2L. Went my car was hit, it spun around to face forward again and landed on the side of the road. My passenger t-top was nowhere to be found, passenger side window blown out, rear hatch glass everywhere and the rear end of my car was completely twisted. The rear passenger tire was on the other side of the road and looking down at the drum that was missing too, I could see my new brake hardware . Too boot my car was still running and I had to grab the keys that were laying on the passenger armrest to shut it off.

Man, that does suck. Guys, just be careful when drivin' in the rain. They got attitude when it's wet and you have to be very careful. I've been sideways in mine and hydraplaned and made me fully aware what could happen if you're not alert to diverit it like you tried to, Matlock. Sorry to here about your ride! I'm just glad you're Ok and the other people are ok too, that's all that matters. How fast were you movin'?

I thought I was gonna get killed last night too it was raining so hard. I pulled over and let it pass by.

Too bad to hear about your car, I got $6500 for my 88 Firebird, but it had several new components.

That sucks, matlock. I have been lucky not to total my car a few times...
One was driving back from BC in a wicked rain storm w/ a bald rear tire... that was horrid. Other was 5 360s on a I-5 on-ramp w/ my girlfriend in the car... that was lucky as heck, and that was in my V-6! I ended up, just last night, sideways in the movie theater entrance...
Sorry about the bad luck, hope you can keep driving a F-Body!

Oh no, not another one Glad to hear you are ok though, that is the most important thing. Buy it back for the parts if nothing else. You can always use the good ones on a new thirdgen if you choose to purchase one, or I'm sure there are lots of members here from your area that would buy many of them if you don't.

My Firebrd was in pretty good shape. Actually, I'd say awesome shape.

I paid $3100 (plus tax = $3400) then did the following
-water pump
-clutch
-heater core
-rebuilt engine (and tonnes of little things on top of it at the same time, harmonic balancer, 02 sensor, in the end it was a big ****in bill)
-new brakes (all around)
-new cat

Tonnes of good pics helped the cause too. In the end I basically got back wht I'd put into it

I crashed it on May 3, 2000 and didnt settle til about 3 weeks later.

I know of a 88 RS V-6, decent body/interior for $1500. Needs wheels/tires. I can also get anything you want, below book. I have a friend that is a used car dealer. I tell him what I want and he gets it at an auction for me. For A decent RS he pays around $400-500 and sells them for $1500-2000

85ROCZLADY1: I was going about 60-70km/hr. I think it was a combination of having an 1/8th tank of gas so no weight in the back, the fact that my front suspension really needed to be replaced, so when going around the corner the wheels just gave way so easily and there was nothing I could do after that. Really be careful guys, I know most of you are.

Blue502: Thank you for your concern man, I'm not worried about paying for extra insurance fees because I'm still walking fine. The car is beyond repair but the front end wasnt touched. I don't think I'll buying it back though since they'll probably want like $1000 for it.

87RS402: That sounds pretty sweet man. I'd love a v6 5spd with ground effects. I've heard though that guys sell their cars at auctions because you can start them but you cant road test the cars. But at that price might be worth the trip down to Oregon.

Again thanks for all your guy's support. I appreciate it very much.

The 88 I know of is currently being driven by a professional mechanic friend of mine. He's also the owner. He bought it as a repo for $500 and has had it detailed since. I don't know if it's a auto or a manual, but I can look.
