It looks like they plan on using that engine for a transverse mount drive system... probably front wheel drive. What it's for I have no clue.

Ahh well from what I have read the XV12 Northstar has the 'displacement on demand' feature I'm guessing so does the XV8...

displacement on demand is wierd. uses only like 4 cylidners out of eight for normal driving but when you step on it all 8 kick in.

Whats so funny about it? It was invented in the 70s, and actually it uses 4 cylinders at idle, 6 at medium throttle and then 8 at 3/4th plus, but it switches so fast by the time you could ever shift you'd never notice a lag.
The big plus is cruising emissions are like N/A, so they can throw the horse power through the roof and still pass emissions! New Vettes could have gross ammounts of HP and get 35+ mpg while cruising!

Only links I have:

http://www.detnews.com/2001/autos/01...tos-273676.htm - Not much about but it does mention some specs on the XV12. 750 HP 450 ft./lbs

http://209.35.112.209/performance/messages/127509.html - Post on some board with a little about the XV12

Sorry its not much but it is all I have found so far.

Jess

This is also assuming it works better than what they had with the caddy's in the late 70s ... those things were a great idea but horribly designed and were put on the backburner...

not sayin its a bad thing, I think it'd be great in trucks too ...

Just hope it works out as well as they want it to in everything they want to use it for....

Personally I'd be more for them putting LS1's into cars like all those beautiful Holdens we can't have instead of putting $$ into that engine but umm... maybe I'm weird like that hehehe

'Displacement on demand', in some version of the LS6, will most likely be a feature of C6 Corvettes and the 5th gen Camaro when (if) they bring it back.

BTW, the engine in that pic is a transverse mount. Note the accessory drives on one end and fluid resevores (sp?) on the other. Looks like the Northstar engine in my mom's Caddy.
