I need a place to rant and rave

Just need to vent My new headers don't fit.... the k-member doesn't fit.... and if I decide to use the headers I'll have to put in an auto tranny and solid motor mounts. I'm too scared to find out if the coil overs fit.

@#&$"*@#&$@*&$#!!!!!!

I'm returning my coil overs! What a piece of CRAP!!!! That is a pathetic design! No other way about it! PA Racing isn't going to like their e-mail come Monday morning. I gave them a mouthful.

The k-member doesn't clear the steering linkages that attach to the spindels. Although I'm thinking that all I have to do is turn the linkage around so that the bolt is on the back side instead of the front. But I'm not sure what that would do to my geometry. Got any input?

I'm a little unclear as to where the interfearance is actually happening. Is it at the point where the tie rod ends meet the center link? How would the k-member intergere way out at the spindles? I just can't picture it. If I saw it I'm sure I would understand.

Yes. The brackets used to brace the mounts for the engine are pushing up against the tie rod end.

Nevermind. The holes are tapered and I can't swap the links to the other side of the bar.

The headers do fit if you slip a TH400 behind the engine. So instead of waiting for another 7 months to get another set of headers like last time I would simply put up a TH400. But at that point you gotta ask the question... why do all this to a '89 Firebird????

I seem to have 3 options:

(1) Use the big block with a TH400
(2) Go small block
(3) Dump the car off and put the big block in something else that can handle it with ease.

I'm exploring all these options. I've tried to sell the big block in the past but nobody would buy it. There are plenty of platforms out there that take big blocks just fine like old muscle cars. I've even had the thought of getting a mid '80s Monte Carlo SS. Those have a timeless style to them and they're plenty big to take the big block. In other words, I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

QuickTrip,

Sorry to hear about the header woes Will they make a new set for you that will work properly? Hope so!

I bet my old '79 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme could take that big block. plenty of engine compartment room. I still know the guy who has it and he hasn't fixed it yet as far as I know.

I got a refund for half the purchase price from Lemons. I will use a TH400 instead. It's easier for both them and myself.

Good, the Auto is the smartest choice anyways! Also, I saw your post, dont sell it dammit!

I am sure that its been completely aggravating, but once you get done with it, it will be one of the baddest 3rdgen's ever!

It's a Tremec TKO. I haven't made a decision yet. You want it? I've got about $3500 invested in it.

- Tremec TKO (3.27 first gear) with adaptor plate
- Pro 5.0 adjustable shifter
- Lakewood bellhousing
- Centerforce dual friction clutch
- Billet steel flywheel

In some ways it was just a bad moment but in other ways it's something I've considered for a while. Just never said it. I've got more inspiration today since I've got a TH400 lined up to be built. It will soon be time to rock and roll!

And when it does, you know you will take that thing out, find a nice secluded road, open it up and have the "Perma-Smile" from ear to ear. And all those wierd crazy thoughts you had of selling it will be loooong gone

Actually, I'll probably end up doing the same thing as happened in the Vette... I'll pop a rear tire off the rim when I hit 2nd gear and go spinning off the road into the field.

Art Morrison Enterprises makes a coil-over for thirdgens. I don't know if it is a different design than the one you have, but it might be worth checking into.
