I used to have a '68 El Camino that few people could appreciate. It was several colors of primer, rusty, and even had a dent in one side. Half the chrome was missing and the interior had no dash pad or pillar molds. I LIKED IT!!!
It ran hard and was a total blast to drive. Don't be concerned about what other people think. You've got a work in progress and you're having fun. What else matters?

Well my car is not so rough around the edges anymore; I took a grinder to the rust.... took it right down to bare metal primed it with rust check then took a spray bomb to it
Most of the rust was along the rocker panels so I just got a close color match & went over the whole rocker panel, looks good.
'cept there's now a 1" hole above the rear tire well
damn rust ruins a car!
