May 30th Drift Session
May 30th Drift Session
So anyone wanna meet up before to help Scott find HRP on sunday? I'm definately down to check it out.
How much is it to drag race? I don't need a helmet for that if my car runs above 14's right?

Scott

There is no drag racing. Drifting only. It'll be $10 to watch, $20 to drive. If you want to drag race go on Friday night, Saturday night, or Sunday during the day and I think its either $8 or $12 to run. The Drift Session on Sunday night will be from 5pm to 10pm. I'll be there in my green IROC.
Awesome. Maybe I'll try to get there earlier on sunday for a few passes down the strip. Can I leave the grounds and come back? Unless they have food with reasonable prices there.

Well, I don't know for sure what time I'll head over there on sunday, but I'm definately going to try to find it. It won't be dark though, so I don't think it'll be a problem.
When I get there, I'm just going to walk up to the first third gens I see lookin' for you guys.

Lemme know and I can slip you a 40oz before you leave man (LOL). Ah man you wouldnt believe the deal I got on tires for drift session ... 4 Nitto NT450's 255/50/17 and 2 Yokohama AVS 100's 225/50/16's. Got em all for $30! Got 2 of the Nitto's stretched on the 17x9.5's and the 2 AVS's stretched on the 16x8's. Comparing the 17's to the 16's ... either the 17's are huge or the 16's are super small. We'll find out when they're on the car. For the first time in a long time my wheels will match!!! LOL!
Nice! I knew I should have gone!!
It was raining off and on and I didn't want to drive all the way out there and pay $10 if I wasn't going to see much... but I should have went anyway damnit.
The next one for sure....
Yeah, we need videos!

It rained there Sunday, too? Let me tell you how much HARDER it is to control a live rear axle when the ground is covered in water... Taking a nice sharp turn and I twist the wheel and NOTHING HAPPENS... the front end continues to go straight, aimed right for four-seconds worth of cones... I'm sure water makes it fun for drifting, which is the opposite of autocross.

Luckily it wasnt raining down at the track. Not one drop all night *wipes brow*. When it does rain the drifting gets out of control. The heavier cars slide for a very long time so the speeds go way down. The guys with the lighter cars can still go fast, but thats just because they dont build as much inertia as our heavy cars.
Sounds like you were understeering man. When the front end plows like that, its because the weight of the car transfered to the front tires.

Talk about it, more like nosteering, instead of understeering. Only when it's wet. I've got new front tires, so I'll have to find out how good they are for grip. I had bumped up the pressure all the way around to almost forty. I'm guessing that the worn-out suspension allows too much weight transfer forward or the car is just too heavy for stock wheels for such radical maneuvering. I'll have to save up for some GTA rims and some racing tires, since I won't be driving that car much.

i mix the two. (three if you count drag racing)
since my car was nott setup for autoX, i couldnt turn too well... it was quite literally, a drag racing setup with the swaybars bolted back on.....
so the only way thru the tight course was to slide the car (understeering) to almost teh apex, then brake to upset the transfer, then when the weight is still forward, feather the gas..
if done correctly, the rear end slides and rotates around... if you're having fun, you can continue to swing it until you're counter steering..
since i was actually trying for better autoX times, i basicly drifted it thru the cones like that, but i made it hook as i came out, so the car just rotated and went straight out toward my next point...
very, very fun.
i need to try drifting sometime too... i mean, i do it already for ***** and giggles, but i never go too wild since i dont have a ton of room for error, and frankly, i like my tires to last a year.
