Pictures of my two beaters. Some shots of Shawn's beauties, too, including the parts car I just finished gutting!
This is the Firebird after I had completed patching the awful hole in the hatch with aluminum tape. I shot white paint over it after making sure the hatch wouldn't poke holes through the tape. Still holding up well.

After the first day at Shawn's ripping stuff out and cramming it into the Firebird. You can see his blown car and his race car (on stands) in the 'garage'. The parts car is in there, too.

Just one reason why I want replacement doors. The other reason is that the mirror is stuck pointing at the ground, and won't easily adjust.

Firebird interior before I start tearing it out. Be glad you can't smell the mold.

The gutted parts car. I'm going to get the steering wheel and turn signal stalk, putting the Firebird's old wheel in there so Shawn can steer the thing.

They both need work, one obviously more than the other. I guesstimated that I've spent 800 on the Firebird, including purchasing cost. Money I could've dumped into suspension upgrades for the GTA. Oh well, I've had fun with the beater so far...
Every firebird in the yard at scholfield has the premium gauge cluster. If I ever get back in there, I'll nab one for you. Or if I ever finally swap mine out... but I think mine is damaged.
So how much have you done so far? I was wondering about your progress.
Laters,
Scott

I've got the Firebird crammed full of stuff. I got the gage cluster (ha, cluster meaning TWO whopping gages) out and tried to see fi the Camaro one would fit, but the two connectors are in different spots, so I'll need to use the whole Camaro dash I also pulled. I had expected that, anyway, but I was hoping I could get a speedo that worked in less than half-an-hour. I'm going to do the doors this Saturday, time and stuff permitting. My wife is going to patch the driver's seat I got from Shawn, then give him back the third seat we used to get the fabric off of.
Then it's cleaning of plastic parts and a good steam-vac of the new carpet sections and seats before we yank out the old stuff. We pulled the entire dash stuff out of the donor car, as evident by the stripped interior shot I posted. I even have the vent lines so we can have air flowing into the Camaro-style dash vents. I did take off the Camaro emblem off of the dash, though, I'll have to scrounge up Pontiac decal from somwhere to fill in the holes it left.
The headliner will be done later, as I still have to line up getting a replacement and getting it installed for cheap. As the cars sits now, I have NO gages save the aftermarket temp gage that is dangling from the wires. The speedo cable works as I could see the inner portin spinning around as I drove.
It's been fun and I'd like to thank Shawn, my wife and the trusty lil' 7mm socket I kept using ALL DAY to get this all done, so far.

If, after coming to wit's end that I can't get the Camaro dash to fit, I'll have to make a few trips to the Schofield yard to do some ripping and pulling. The rest of the stuff was gravy to do, I don't see any problems there. The dash is all I'm worried about.

I wouldn't bother with the camaro crap. The pontiac stuff is better anyway. If you do have mechanical hookups for your gauges, you can convert or just use parts off of older cars.
Laters,
Scott
No problem, glad you could use some of those parts. Camaro dash should fit, but not sure how the console will line up. Thanks for not showing any closeups of my ghetto garage hahaha.

If I was planning on keeping the car, I would try to get All Pontiac stuff in there... Nah, I know what I did. I'll settle for GM Corporate parts. (read: Chevy)
I'm documenting everything so the buyer isn't left without half-a-clue. The donor car is an 88 (checked the tenth digit on the VIN) and the recipient is an 87. I'm hoping the Firebird doens't have tissue rejection issues, or I'll have to use the transplant anti-rejection drugs. (read: Big hammer, bigger wrench)
Nice carport, Anthony, I'm turning green here! All I can manage with is a (fair-sized) parking stall, visible in my 'racecar' shot. I have two, but I wish they were side-by-side - I might be able to fit three cars in two wide stalls.

Ian, careful about how many pic attachments. Don't want ya' to get in any trouble. (As if mods even read this board....)
If it's an '87, any pontiac cluster will work. I'll have to check mine better when I take it out so I know what you mean exactly. I don't really pay attention in there when it's out.
There are only a couple of things that I would try to keep pontiac, mostly for fitment (and stress) issues, but also because they simply look and work better. Keep a pontiac dash and center console. Everything else is either the same or not an issue.
Anthony, nice 1st gen!

Don't see those here, much. I think some dude in Wahiawa has a 1st gen Z, but I could be wrong. Don't see too many 2nd gens, either, come to think about it. Must be the moisture content here, stuff just ends up rusting to nothing in a few decades.
Definitly a nice car.

Yeah, rust is terrible here! The usual spots always rust out. The rear quarters, the panel below the rear window, the bottom of the doors, bottom of the front fenders, & the firewall area. Same applies to older Mustangs too! (Mustangs are my first love. That's how I know...........shhhhhh! lol!)
I got you all topped for the most ghetto garage. I got some pics on my old computer, I'll dig 'em up in a few days when I have access to it.
Now my garage is half full of cars that don't run. Actually, only my firebird and my mom's toyota run at the moment....
Living around town, seeing any 3rd gen or earlier f-body is rare. 1st/2nd's are very rare, but I'll still see an occasional 3rd. 4ths are runnin' around all over the place.
Everyone knows 1st gens are the sexiest! '69 T/A... oooh yeah....
What do you have under that hood, Anthony?
Laters,
Scott

My uncle is the owner & the car & it's originally from Yakima Washington. So I'm not too sure on all the parts. It has that 330hp crate motor from GMPP I think. Still got the original 12 bolt rear & an M20 (muncie) 4 speed......Z28 clone by the way. Use to be automatic RS I believe. Not that sure. Never ran all the numbers yet. Wow! You're good lol! Yes, that's a 37 2 Door Ford. The Mustang you see in the back is a 65 GT. Next to it covered in a grey tarp(Is that how you spell it?) is my 68 Fastback Mustang. What you don't see is the covered 29 Ford Model A & next to my wife's Camaro behind the black covering, another 69 Camaro RS.
All a combination of me, my dad's, my uncle's, & my brother's cars. lol

I think that you'd have better luck if you autocrossed it - I think it would fall into H-class stock, otherwise known as 'Hooptie-Class'.
