AutoShow in Motion

AutoShow in Motion July 30th - August 1st

Anyone going to this? I didn't even know about it until tonight, I'll try to register by tomorrow.

<i>"Dear SCOTT,

What would you do if you went to an auto show and they handed you the keys?

Here's your exclusive invitation to grab the wheel at a hands-on driving experience unlike anything you've ever seen. Imagine choosing from over 60 of the hottest vehicles - sports cars, family cars, luxury sedans, sport utilities and trucks - and taking them out on the open road. You will also be able to interact with product specialists who can answer your questions.

Try the best vehicles GM has to offer - including Cadillac, HUMMER, Chevrolet, Pontiac, GMC, Saab, Saturn and Buick*.

But that's not all. There are auto-related activities for the whole family and snacks will be available.

You and a guest are invited to attend AutoShow in Motion - a completely no-charge event for selected guests, taking place at the JW Marriott Ihilani® Resort & Spa, July 30 through August 1, 2004. It's a hands-on driving event that will reignite your passion for the open road with vehicles that revive the American spirit.

Yeah, I doubt they'll limit how many people you can bring. Besides, I have NO idea where that marriot is!

Kind of funny how this part of the GM advertising is misdirected to drivers living on a little island:

"It's a hands-on driving event that will reignite your passion for the open road ... "

Well, there's a bit of open freeway from Kapolei to Pearl City - I hear a lot of r!cers racing on that stretch of road on Friday nights, when I stay in Waipahu. I guess they like the open road, too.

Are you going? You "have" to be 21 to drive/register, I said I was.

yeah there's a lotta ricers, cocky ones too. Last time we went out there, it was in a 69 SS chevelle, and some wise-crack in a sentra tried to race us..... I guess he figured old cars were slow or something. Idk if i'm going though, my car is down right now since im tryin to sell it, don't wanna wear it down anymore than necessary. If I do go, I would probably have to go with an adult because im a minor.

So who's coming with me? I'm planning to go on saturday (31st) afternoon, though I can only fit one person "comfortably" in my car. I filled out the reg for 2 adult guests and 2 child (under 21) guests. That way, you could come- and so could I since I'm only 20, hehe. So we'd be covered either way.

If more or less than what I wrote wants to go, I doubt there'd be a problem.

By the way, I asked my pop where it was, and he kept giving me names of places that I've heard of, but still have no idea where it is. Though, once I see it I'll probably know my way around at least a little. I don't travel west very much.

Anyone need my cell number? PM me.

Scott

Bring her along! It's a family event! She can even ride along.

Don't know how old she is, but...

<i>"17: Will there be car seats available for children?
A: Yes, we will have car seats available for drivers with children."

" • Children 12 years or younger must ride in the back seat in an appropriate child restraint "</i>

etc.

Go check it out Anthony!

Hey, I qualify as being over 21! Besides, I can most of the time act like an adult, heh.

I'd like to go and bring my son Martin. He's 20. BUT -- we take my IROC, the AC works and so does the stereo. If there's more, we can take my Astro, but I'd rather drive the IROC.

Will they have any decent cars to play with, or just econo-wagons...

Can we go in the a.m. instead of the p.m.?

If they have unlimited "snacks" it will be fun.

An open bar -- yay, Martin drives home!

Maybe if I get infused enough with their "open road" fever I'll drive off the beach to the mainland, hah.

Ed, according to their website, they should have a good selection of vehicles to choose from. Although, it mentions a max of 4, but I'm sure you could get around that if you wanted to. (Maybe registering twice....)

Check out the website- http://www.autoshowinmotionhawaii.com/

It's all day so check it out in the morning if you want. We could probably get a few of us over there, so we can all bring our third gens! You can change the time, and if a few of you guys want to hit that place up in the morning I'll change mine to match. (Especially since I probably won't be able to drive, so I need to sit shotgun with someone.)

See ya' there!

What time were you planning to register for? They have hourly blocks, I think.

I registered for 11:45 a.m.

But none of the blocks were empty, so I think the event is under-attended.

Could be an orgy of accelerator-pumping and pupu-swallowing!

Hopefully it will be, so that they won't limit anyone to only 4 cars. Also, maybe they'll have a heart and let Martin and me drive!

I'll have to see what I'm doin' in the morning, so I'll let you know tomorrow. We should probably trade numbers again, my phone doesn't store them very long for some reason. I signed up for 4:45 originally, then moved it to 2:45.

It's 10:40 now, so Martin and I will be shoving off soon. Nice drive to Kapolei and after a few pupus and telling the salespeople I'm not interested 'cause I still like my IROC better than the new stuff, we'll head on over to the Kapolei theater to salivate over Catwoman. I'll shoot some digipics if there's anything interesting... CYA, Ed

I've been to this event before. I even have a video of me and 9D1Burd driving C5 coupes, and Z06's. I also got the chance to drive BMW's, Mercs, Jags, you name it they had it. Ofcourse the GM selection far outweighs the non-GM cars.

It was an interesting show ... got a free hot dog, some snacks and coffee, then took some snapshots with the new cars.

We both had the same observation: the new cars are too small inside, the driver and passenger areas are OK for 5'-10" 150 pound people, but if you're 6+ and 200+ it won't be comfortable. In fact, there was far less room in ALL the cars except for the Hummer, trucks and Caddy XLR -- our 3rdGens have LOTS more room to sit in. And the engine compartments? Yikes! Forget it!

The only car we drove was the Pontiac 5.7 and unfortunately it was an automatic. Overall, once off the hotel grounds and on the freeway I stuck my foot into it a couple times [once from a dead stop which freaked out the "GM attendent" along to make sure we didn't flog it too hard or steal it] and the car accerated pretty good with a 3.42 final drive but both of my 5.7 TPI 3rd Gens with 3.27s would dump on it. It's an OK family-type "performance car" but oh *** it looked like some weenie import or econo car. Not much personality. In my gasoline-drenched humble opinion, this is the perfect car for the masses, to introduce them to the joys of a decent V8 again.

So I guess we'll be keeping our loud, in-your-face, gut-wrenchingly fast Camaros now going on 20 years old, as the new stuff is mostly still pretty boring and can't get 20+ mpg like we can.

Scott too bad you couldn't make it, was fun and we watched Cat Woman slither all over in leather tights afterwards, heh.

Ahh sounded fun. I bet that GM attendant had a great look on his face.

I've had a lot of car trouble this weekend, and after I "fixed" it, I had even worse luck getting my truck back and running. I finally gave up and went for a long drive with the radio blazin'.

It's a shame, I really wanted to check out the GTO. I figured it'd be an auto, but I'm dyin' to see that interior in person.

You should have tried out one of those new caddy-v's.

Take it easy,
Scott

The GTO interior felt too small for me, the steering wheel didn't tilt down enough and the body design was boring. The 5.7 was the best feature and AC was cold, heh.

What kind of car trouble happened?

Cheers, Ed

I got to sit in the GTO at he last car show thing they had. I was impressed with the LS1, but little else. The seats were comfortable for me, but the whole interior was far too luxurious for it to be a muscle car. Plus the view out of hte rear-view mirror was too busy. It wouldn't kill them to make the back window a bit bigger, would it? *shrug*
