Today at lunchtime, I browsed the cars at the Schofield Barracks salvage yard and thought I'd let you guys know there is a '92 Anniversary RS that has been wrecked pretty hard on the passenger front. The carbed V8 and engine stuff looks OK, it also has a 5-speed, sorry I didn't check the rear end, it started to rain pretty hard. The interior looks ok, but is lower-grade than the Z28. The car is presently on auction status and bids will close on Oct 2. If bids are not high enough, it will go into the yard for the parts vultures. There might be other parts you guys need, such as a newer AC system, alternator or single Serpentine Belt setup. Oh, it also has a set of nice 16-inch wheels with faded red paint, didn't notice hardly any curb-rash.
If someone wants a closer look Sat or Sun, let me know.

Scott, could you send me a picture of your dash cluster? I'm going to revert my beater to the Pontiac dash unit. This dash swap is a lot harder than I originally thought.

Went to the SB salvage yard Saturday, here's some pics.
BTW, $200 bid is an excellent price for the 92, has power windows, 5-speed and what appears to be 4 excellent 16-inch wheels. Unfortunately, the rear is NOT disk brake. Interior is cheesy grey.

Here's pics of an 86 RS, also with a bid price of $200, this one has a disk brake rear...body has some serious rust damage. Most likely this one will end up in the yard for parts, so assuming it has the BW 9-bolt, the rear and all brake parts could be had for $100-200. Scott - It also has power windows.

Hmm weather wasn't that bad today... I should have called to see if you were headed over there, Ed.
Those wheels on that blue firebird don't look too shabby, I'm guessing they're 15"s though.
Anthony, did you check out that 9-bolt yet? If it's in good shape, let me know. I don't care about the rotor condition.

The rotors still look like they can be resurfaced, & with the calipers I would just do a quick rebuild to be safe. Re build kits are only like 10-12 bucks if I'm not mistaken. I'm gonna clean everything up when I get the chance & just let me know if you still wanna come to my house to check it out. I didn't pull the cover off yet to check the gear teeth though but like I said, it spins pretty smoothly. Laterz.

About how heavy are these things? A couple hundred pounds? I have no idea, but I'd have to tell my buddy to use his pickup.

Heavy enough... IMHO, one person can lift them.. but the bulk makes them difficult to handle... (not to mention the fact that the pinion always hangs towards the ground....)

Yeah I had a lot of fun getting that thing in & out of my truck!! But I have since taken off the rotors & calipers. It actually feels a little better carrying now without them on

The '92 in your picture has an LO3, the '86 has an LG4. Nothing I'd want for power potential, but (If I had a garage) I could dump the LG4 into the beater and make it get up and go faster. Plus, if the mileage is as low as it says, the engine may be in good shape! I'm under strict orders NOT to find any more projects to do, until I have a house and garage to do them in. Then I can do whatever I want!

Anthony, I'd like to check out that rear this weekend if it's good for you.
Ed, sorry that I didn't make it. The weather was a little "iffy" when I woke up so I just decided to clean my garage out.
Let me know the next time you're planning to head back there. I'll definately come out since I've got a few more tools to work with.

BTW, if you change your mind on the 9-bolt rear, or decide to use different brakes, let me know, maybe we can make a deal.
On Thursday I make my weekly trek from Wahiawa to downtown Honolulu to work at the Advertiser, so I'll browse the Fort Shafter yard for brakes and F-body stuff.
Hey, in a pinch you know you can use my tools...

I would't mind grabbing the wheels as the rims have less curb-rash than mine! Too bad it doesn't have PBR rear disks, I would have bought the whole car and parted it, sigh.

The red 92 RS didn't get picked up on auction, so it will be going in for dismemberment as a parts car at the Schofield salvage yard, probably this weekend.
It has V8, power windows, 5-speed, 16-inch wheels, drum brake rear, and the interior is cheesy grey.
I was gonna raid it for the 5-speed, but have decided to get a manual trans attached to a convertible, when one becomes available.

Ok, forgive me if this is a stupid question but, "what is the difference between a regular hardtop & convertible regarding the trans?" Or did you mean taking the entire car connecting to the 5 speed trans lol!
Also, how long do you think that trans will stay there before someone raids it cause I can't make it this weekend

Not sure when the 92 will be ready for the vultures. I'm gonna go up there tomorrow and try get them to bring it in on Sunday, 'cause there's a few things I want. Probably be there about 2-3 hours. You can ride with me for small parts, but you'll have to follow in your car if you wanna ****** the trans and stuff it in your trunk, 'cause I don't have enough time to stay there all day...

I have his cell phone if anyone wants to call him drop me a PM.
There's a black Firebird at Schofield with a 5-speed, I don't recall as I type this if it's a V8, but I probably said so in an earlier post.

Hey, anyone with a set of Firebird door cupholders that are not needed, let me know how much you want for them. Too bad GM didn't put these in the Camaros.
For you Camaro guys, I have an extra '92 Camaro dash pad available, no cracks, dents or ripples.

Anyone headed to a yard this weekend? If so give me a call. I won't be online at all this weekend after halftime.... Gotta try to rush home to catch the rest of the game tonight.

Nuts... I really want a set of GTA rims... A bit far for me to go, though. With any luck, it'll be scooped up and placed in a yard, however, Abe's charges insane prices for the silliest parts. Those plastic little wingnuts that hold the rear lenses onto the car? Two bucks EACH. And I wanted eight.

Scott, if you remember that KN filter you pulled out of that 86 bird, i dont know, but to me, it kind of looked like apart of this set-up http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/in...l?v=1&pid=2176 some aftermarket cold air thing.

i had a great day hunting today but i could not find any motors to rebuild. i found 2 other style motors but i dont know if they have the same wireing as mine. do any of you guys have a pair of headlight motors that you could sell me? there was one firebird at scholfield that had the motors i need but they didnt know if it was sold or not when i was there. i may have to go back and pick those up along with some of the interior trim. i have a grey interior but im goin to switch to black.
Shoot, I should have called.
Keola, I doubt any of the intake tract was aftermarket, but I didn't see any of it aside from the air box and filter.
The camaro tpi setup looks better anyway. (As in, "looks like it'd work better.")
From Ed's pic, I'd guess that it was all stock except for the filter and the previous owner's infamous use of blue spray paint.
Randy, could I see a pic of your dash trim?

Several reasons for not "upgrading" -- TPI cars typically run out of RPMs at 5500 RPM or less. Modified engines pushing 7K RPM can make much more use of less restrictio, so for daily driver street applications there's no way an air box intake will increase your horsepower by 50, that's just hype. Also, the MAFs in TPI intakes are easily killed by oil and water contamination, which is why high speed driving through deep water puddles is a bad idea, as is over-oiling K&N type filters. Oh, and don't even think about cutting off the MAF screen, you won't gain anything...
In short, it's an OK upgrade for Firebird, not Camaro...
