'83 Trans Am

Ad in islandpreviews.com - anyone know of this car or the guy who's selling it? (Like I REALLY need a third Trans Am in my stable right now!) Maybe Scott would be good for it, he's only asking 500 for it. V8, auto, so correct me if I'm mistaken, but it could only be an LG4 or an LU5 - L69's didn't get automatic trannies, right? Pretty red color, t-tops, but only one exterior shot, which isn't very high-definition.

EDIT: I KANT SPEL

Carb + automatic = LG4, or so it would seem. EFI + automatic = LU5, at least for that year, anyway. I betcha if it had the Recaro options, it would have been able to command a higher price.

From the seller himself, got this reply today:

I am not really a car buff so I dont know exactly what kind of engine it has. All I know is that it is fuel injected crossfire V8 engine. I havent done any modifications to it. I just put in 2 tornados on the 2 K&N air filters. The tags havent been current for about 2 years. The reason is because I have gotten into motocycles and dont really like driving anymore. The car has been sitting in the garage the whole time, and I fire it up once in awhile to keep it maintained. I just recently changed the fluids, oil, and filters. I dont know about the steering gears thing. It does have a cancer rust spot on the lower side of the drivers door. The paint is chipping here and there. There is also a few dings, nothing major though. It doesnt have any mechanical problems, but the enginge gasket needs to be replaced down the line, and the power steering fluid leaks. I also bought new motors for both power windows. The headlights pop up normally. I am surprised they still work after all these years. I really want to get rid of this car already because there is too many cars in the garage and the lawn. My old unused trans am is taking up space. I am willing to sell the car for $350. If you are interested call the number on the ad in island previews.

I'm more then half-tempted (I'm probably 97-percent tempted, the remaining three percent is my wife's total lack of desire to get ANOTHER old car) to go get it for myself, and restore it. Running '83 CFI cars aren't something you see everyday - well, I sure don't... However, I already have the TTA I'm trying to fix up. If I did get it, the tornados would go and I'd try to figure out what engine gasket he means is leaking. That and the power steering. Not sure how bad two years of back taxes would be - 150 a year? Still not a terrible deal after that.

Here's the link, the picture can be expanded a bit.

Hate to see him just junk it at Abe's or something, I'm sure someone would enjoy driving a piece of old third-gen around. Of course, there's only myself and Scott, who get turned on by Firebirds... The rest of you crazy Camaro-heads could probably care less...

Have him sell it as a "parts car" then "fix it" and reinspect, register. No back tax/license/registration fees. I did this with a van that needed a top, avoided six years of fees.

All youz guyz in the 808 should take out your registration and read the back. Back taxes is a flat rate x no. years + current year not what you would owe for the whole year x no. years + current year + late fee. stew

I think I'll look into it, especially since its in kaimuki. Just one or two things would easily make up my mind one way or another. Thanks for keepin' tabs on cheap thirdgens!

I also agree that it's not too often you see a CFI third gen in decent running condition. Kinda cool if you ask me & if I didn't have so many damn parts & cars I would get it for myself haha! You should look into it Scott.
