How many of you guys go to the tracks??? I am usualy there on pro gas night. That way maybe I can meet some of you.I was there last night, tuning for tonight, track was very slick, too much dust from the moto x guys and no treating.Plus I run street tires at every race,a squirt of VHT and 60 foot was ok.If you guys are there, come say hello,I run my slowish but consistent 94 Z28.Progas #94Z.Well any way, have a great day.

I haven't been out there yet, have a buddy that goes out nearly every weekend it seems. I guess it is open for a lot of different things. He has these little pocket bikes and stuff. I guess they are getting pretty popular. I dunno, I stick to my car or my CBR600. Maybe I will make it out there soon though, he asks all the time. L8R!

The only time our Pacific group has gotten together socially was once at a Saturday raceway drift session, so we could watch Crazy Hawaiian do his stuff sidways in the Gangreene 3rdGen.
Too bad that since then nobody seems to have a couple hours free to do a repeat gathering, sigh.
Once in a while I go there to watch low ET cars, but stay away when there's nothing but a constant swarm of street brackets. I do like the fast cars, like Danny's 11 sec 3rdGen.
Here's a discount coupon to watch those ThirdGen pro-gassers!

4th Gen? What're you driving now? Don't worry Scott, my wife's car is a piece of garbag too, in terms of performance. But it has A/C - sunroof - CD player, so she's happy.

it cant bet that bad can it scott? There was a 85 trans am for sale, 1200 bucks or something 305 headers 5spd. Ill go look it up. probably can negotiate it for 900 bucks. hes been tryin to sell it for a year, its a guy who bought and sold thirdgens like I did, but bought into a pontiac, which do not seem to sell well down here. I guess local people are more into chevys.
I've had 6 camaros over the past year, 4 thirdgens and two 4ths. 91 RS 2 91Z28s, a 92Z28, 93Z28, 99 SS.
The 93 z28 had an LT4 conversion w/ all the bells n whistles true duals headers etc. basically I was daily driving a racecar that got 8mpg, wasn't too cool.... well i was but not on my wallet, bought it for 5k sold it for 7k.
I then found a killer deal on a 99 SS, picked it up for 9500$ 70k miles, bone stock w/ upgraded brakes thats it. I'm enjoying it, the only thing i dont like about it is the exhaust tone.. Ed can tell you that its' virtually non existant. Hows the TTA? I've always wanted to have a boosted car of somesort hehe... maybe I'll get me an STS... but im pretty broke right now since I blew most of my money on the SS, and between that and gas, not much disposable income right now. At least the LS1 sips gas, versus the LT4.
I still miss the thirdgens, seeing Eds 87 iroc n 92 Z really made me miss em more.
But anyway, we should try to set up a track date or something. at least before the year ends, hopefully.
Oh yeah, how's the fiberglass proj goin Ed?

I still miss the thirdgens, seeing Eds 87 iroc n 92 Z really made me miss em more -- Yeah, I'd really miss not having to tighten up my kidney belt when buckling into the 3rdGen! But they do have personality, something not emphasized in the 4th Gens much, well, unless the pull 10's ....
But anyway, we should try to set up a track date or something. at least before the year ends, hopefully -- I agree, let's go watch Crazy Hawaiian and Chris scream and slide...
Oh yeah, how's the fiberglass proj goin Ed? -- Have only made drawing outlines for a plaster mold, as I've been sidelined by having to put a new roof on the house and then termite-tent. But it will go faster afterwards.

I should be able to make the next Drift Session in November (its also on the 12th but at 9am). The thing is, I think my engine is going to explode soon. I'm gonna try have a friend help me adjust the valves (I dunno how to do it) and see if thats the problem. I have a re-occuring knock sound that goes away and comes back. Not good. Other than that, everything is working great and I'll even have my shift kit in by then (manual control 1st and 2nd woohoo)
I know a guy with an '02 Z28 he ordered Borla exhaust and they sent him two complete systems even though he only paid for one! I know hes selling it but I dont know how much. Might be cheap but I dunno the guy that well so I dunno ...

I'm pretty sure I'll be there.......only to film of course
Shawn, hope the bugs are out of your car by then. Chris, if you are gonna give up on drifting, at least show up to this one for one last bang hehe!
Shawn, hope the bugs are out of your car by then. Chris, if you are gonna give up on drifting, at least show up to this one for one last bang hehe! Yes I will be there for sure. Car is running OK, just need to do a few more fine tune things. I was not able to get my shift kit installed due to funds. I have my alignment set for Friday so Saturday the 12th should be a go. I'm gonna have at least 3 sets of tires to burn. The only thing is, I'm strongly considering doing the long course turn 1 instead of the short course. Mainly because of funds and because I want to try out my new suspension setup without holding people up on the short course. So in case you guys haven't seen the long course turn 1, its located at the end of the 1/4 mile track by return road, staging area is right by the 1/8th mile turn of the short course. I should be out there with my green camaro, silver truck, and a tent. Definately bringing a cooler so if you guys need a place to store drinks feel free to ask. Considering bringing a grill to BBQ but might not because I'm usually too busy drifting and stuff. I do have a few steaks we can eat if someone brings a BBQ. Bring helmets and you can ride along ...
Good news guys, I asked Dave about Drift Session in 2006 and he said its just a rumor, they will be holding DS in '06!! Woohoo!!!

Well I spent about 10 hours on the car today, changed the ignition module and the knock sensor and it didnt fix my problem. I can drive the car but only with the EST system disconnected, meaning the timing is way retarded and there is no power. I'm gonna try to find another 165 ECM tomorrow, thats the only thing left I haven't changed. So now Drift Session went from a "for sure" to a "maybe, but probably not" sorry guys. I also couldnt get some of my tires mounted, the guy refused.

Darn! Thought you had the driveability problem solved with a new IAC... Let me know if you can't score a 165 ECU, I might have one over here for testing. Hope to see you tomorrow!
On the way to the alignment shop @ 9am some sort of electrical fire happened by Pearl City cutoff and a bunch of stuff melted, full on puddle of plastic under the car after I pulled over and stopped. So far I see the clip for the fan switch gone, part of the sparkplug wire loom melted, and about a 1/4 of the torque converter platic cover melted off. I learned a new lesson, if it smells like coffee pull over hahaha. I think the exhaust is running much hotter than normal because of the retarded timing. It was a bad idea to attempt to drive it to the alignment shop w/ EST bypass disconnected. After being stranded on the freeway for about an hour I was able to get the car home over the course of the next 5 hours, driving in short bursts and stopping to wait for the car to cool down before going again. Something else happened and now the fuel pump will not turn off unless I disconnect the battery (reconnect it and it turns back on argh). I'm cursed. I replaced the ECM with a new one and it still stalls with the EST connected, still no codes. Sorry guys, no Drift Session for me this month. Gonna start replacing sensors left and right now, nothing here makes sense. There's only a few I haven't replaced yet anyway. Hate to say this but, what a POS!!!

It was somewhere down below the pass side exhaust manifold. I'm not sure if it was heat or electric, maybe a combo of both started by too much heat then progressing to exposed wiring. I've had a previous fire in the same area caused by arc'ing plug wires and a PCV leak, that one had full on flames. Thank goodness for fire extinguishers. I've decided to pull the pass side exhaust manifold so I can see that area better, need to repair the wiring and stuff, make sure this never happens again. And as long as its off I might as well install the headers I have waiting, and as long as I'm doing that I might as well delete EGR and AIR and stuff.
But even after I get that squared away I know I'll still have the stalling issue w/ EST bypass wire connected, and thats the one I cant figgure out. I'm stumped. I've followed the troubleshooting charts in the service manual with a DVM and Dwell Meter, replaced all the parts that are possible culprits on those troubleshooting charts and its still happening. I'm about ready to sacrafice some chickens and goats.
Thanks for the offer BTW, I didnt want to bother anyone with my problems. Car shouldn't have left the garage in the first place. I made a bad choice.

It may sound weird, but the first component I'd replace to ensure engine electrical performance would be the distributor. A new one such as MSD. Several pesky driveability problems I had in the '87 IROC vanished with this upgrade and it has been trouble-free for the past couple of years.
Yeah, let's build a sacrifical altar for GM Spirits. My neighbors have plenty of goats and chickens they'll never miss, so I'll bring those. You can pile the burnt electrical parts into a funeral pyre. And lets not forget a couple of virgins helping to make the spirits happy. I sure don't know where any of those are and I couldn't run fast enough to tackle any, so anyone step in to help...
Yes I think you are onto something. I've done more reading and it looks like the Pickup Coil inside the distributor works in conjunction with the Ignition Module to make the timing changes directed from the ECM with EST bypass connected. When I took my distributor apart, I didnt know what the Pickup Coil was but I saw that it was dirty and rusted, I sanded it down and used compressed air to clean it out. I had no idea it had magnetic properties. I'm gonna see if I can get another Pickup Coil, might just opt for a whole new distributor like you are saying.
I've read your posts about deleting AIR and running the delete pully (with link to part info thank you very much) I will soon be following in your footsteps. I'm going to get rid of EGR too and attempt to make some PROM changes. I haven't had much success tuning this car, mostly because I run into problems datalogging so I dont know whats going on. Maybe this new ECM will datalog correctly.
GM Spirits are apparently into the "tough love" concept. hahaha

Hey man didn't know that you went. Where were you hanging around? I was there all day too.....but I was working. I was the guy all around in the black RaceFactory shirt with a camera. I was also around the big trailer in the pit area alot.
Anyways, glad your experience was a good one. Did you see when the brown Toyota crashed? The guy's name is Royce. Too bad too, he's a really good driver but sometimes things just happen
Anyways, glad you had a good time!

Glad you enjoyed it. I didnt go because I its like punishing myself, I was really looking forward to going drifting this month. Sucks to hear Royce crashed, he's really good. I guess it happens to everyone every once in a while (I've had some interesting ones). I wish I could say I was as good as some of the other drivers, I think its an accomplishment if I can stay out of their way. hehehehe.

Aaaah Shawn. Should've just come to watch. Was good fun! Yeah, Royce pretty much cleaned out the entire driver side. He slammed into the tires & guardrail coming out of the sweeper during reverse track practice for Group A competition.

Hey Crazyhawaiian,Just putting in my two cents.I read some of the posts and dont know if you already fixed the prob of your fuel pump, but I just had the same prob on a mustang and it was the fuel pump relay.Hope that helps at all.I got to try drifting one day, alot of skill and alot of fun sounds like.I run Progas and this weekend finaly won in Pro ET.Felt awesome to win.

Thanks for the tip Thomas, I'll definately look into it. Makes sense too because when I reconnect the battery I can hear something click in the engine bay, I think you are right brah. Congrats on winning Pro ET!!!
