Re: Hawaii Members
It's nice to see someone beating the drums to round up the ThirdGens over there. "Crazy Hawaiian" used to be one of the most active people on Oahu, is he still around?

Re: Hawaii Members
First I just need to get it started again...see this thread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...g-problem.html. Otherwise restoration work both interior & exterior...rust spots on the hood & trunk deck. I do have a trunk deck in my garage, but it needs stripped & repainted before I can put it on. Silver car with a red trunk would look stupid.

Re: Hawaii Members
I bought it off a guy at Schofield back in April or so. It ran great up until the starter died in July. It seemed a little sluggish starting anyway & I was beginning to think the solenoid was going out. I did have to replace the alternator back in June.

Re: Hawaii Members
Yes it was on craigslist, but my wife happened to find it when she went to their house because of a garage sale. I was able to talk the guy down some. She runs now & I'm happy. I'd like to take her out to KRP & see what her 1/4 time is before I do anything more performance wise. I wouldn't mind crusing, or hanging out with other 3rd gens. We seem to be the black sheep of the F-bodies because we have Reagan Era EPA standard cars.

Re: Hawaii Members
The problem is that I didn't take my time & pay attention to what I was doing. All the plug wires needed shifted counter clockwise 1 spot on the distributor cap. From what I heard on the radio today is that they get people with like brand new vettes, chargers, challengers that will go out to KRP & run their cars. You are correct that it's a sand track. From what I understand is the car gets dirty, but they just go home & clean it....don't know about the sand being thrown up on my paint, but the car needs stripped & repainted anyway. Would like to keep it at least somewhat decent looking, though. KRP has a thing this weekend I was thinking of taking the family to.

Re: Hawaii Members
Old thread but I recently found out that my 3rd gen's original color was maui blue. It was repainted a darker blue a long time ago by a PO. The clear has mostly peeled off by now. When ever I can afford a new paint job, I'm gonna put it back to the original maui blue. I haven't noticed any maui blues on maui yet.

Old school, carb-guy fussing around with all this new fan-dangled computer stuff...ECM/PCM, sensors, etc. etc. My brain needs some help and advice. I live in Waipahu, on Oahu, and do most of my car stuff at the Navy Auto Hobby shop.
Currently, my project is a '92 Chevy 4x4 S10 that I've been restoring and modifying the drive train. The restoration phase is mostly complete and now I want to focus on making it run better. The motor is a slightly modified 4.3L which has been bored .020 over with flat-top pistons, running a marine version cam with roller rockers, '96 Vortec heads, Edelbrock 2114 square-bore intake (with 1-inch carb-to-TBI adapter), and shortie headers. I opted for this engine build after researching it on the S10forum.
The sum of these changes is a quirky running motor. While I don't know for certain, one of the main issues maybe the absence of the EGR. I wasn't able to install an EGR because the intake has no place to accommodate one. The original ECM is a 16144288 with BCC BARL. Like I said, it runs quirky...starts, runs fine in CLOSED loop but once it switches to OPEN loop it struggles to stay running.
My ultimate plan is to swapout the ECM with a 16168625 PCM and take advantage of the 8162 baud processing. Thus far, I have fashioned an adapter which would have allowed me to switch back and forth between the ECM and PCM in the event I mess up while tuning.
In a nutshell, that is my story.
All assistance welcomed! Mahalo!
