Any "ORIGINAL" 3rd gen owners who still own their 3rd Gens, we need help!

Me and quite a few other members are running into a man hunt for the illusive issue of "fuel pump whine". For any original owners who still have their 3rd gens, did you ever run into the problem of "fuel pump whine" just after your purchase of your vehicle? Or did your "fuel pump whine" occur years after owning your 3rd gen. To answer this question, please reply to this thread below so that us trouble shooters can hear what you have to say about your experience. Thank you, Chevy86 IROC-Z.

Mine never had the problem until a few years ago. I have been replacing everything electrical because I thought that was the problem. I think that when a fuel pump starts to get a loud whine it needs to be changed.

Hey man thanks for the reply. As you can see, no one participated in this thread. But then again, not very many people are original owners.

Most people probably didnt get past the title and thought it was some sort of issue dealing with documentation or something. Who would have guessed it had to do with something as common is a noisey fuel pump and pretty much nothing to do with someone being an origional owner of a car..

I agree with 89EsPower. I've only had my Z28 for a year and experienced the whine. I replaced fuel pump and the whine is gone. But it doesn't matter since I'm not an original owner!

Well as soon as my probation expires, I'll edit the title and add fuel pump issue.

What do you become after probation?` Did you get in trouble Chevy? Or is that a title for moving up in the site?

Lol. Um. Defiance. A word of advice. Don't argue with the boss. And listen to what he says the first time.

Oh i thought it was just a higher rank! How long you on for? I think your question to the original owner was legit. My fuel got hot the other day after driving for about a hour running errands. It was boiling!! My next fix is all vacuum hoses and solenoid at the canister.

Wow. Boiling? Pretty hot. Do a search up above. I made a thread strictly for testing the evap canister. I'm not sure if yours is just like an iroc's. But please do look for it. Or go to my profile and look on my "thread starter". If yours is different, I'll look for your style and post it up for you. Just let me know. I'm about to leave for a birthday party but I'll have my iPhone next to me if you have any questions.

Re: Any "ORIGINAL" 3rd gen owners who still own their 3rd Gens, we need help!

I have owned three 3rd gens and bought my first one(82 Trans Am) new. Don't know what that has to do with this. I don't remember the 82 ever having pump noise issues. Noisy fuel pump has been a common issue on all GM vehicles with in tank electric pumps. GM released a technical service bulletin concerning this several years ago. The fix was a sound deadening sleeve for the pump(you'll find these on many new GM fuel pumps and included in the kit with replacement pumps). It is a cheezy fix and helps only marginally. The fact is, when a pump gets noisy it is generally caused by resonance in the windings and is a sign of a coming failure. It can also be caused by damage to the pump rotor/case. However, I have seen pumps run fine for years with the noise before failing.

Bosch has released a new line of in tank replacement pumps that are dual stage turbine pumps rather than the OE style rotary pump. I would imagine these pumps would be less likely to become noisy, but I can't say for sure.
