What does it take to run 12"s
What does it take to run 12"s
Like the the title says.
Or more acuratly with deccent 60fts , T-5 trans 3.73 or 4.10 posi rear and weight reduction. ie. aluminum heads, intake, water pump, radiator, drive shaft, no A/C or emmisions, gutted interior, no front sway bar, ect.
How much HP would it take? What special "tricks" are neaded? The end weight would be aprox 3,100 to 3,200 lb without driver.

And you posted that in this forum for what reason??
Well, since you are in this forum, here are prodcuts that this forum deals with technically that could get you into the 12's
nitrous:
NX makes a good kit. They use top quality solenoids and good nozzles. Id recommend a wet setup as it is easier to taylor your fuel system that way.
Of course you can choose from other brands like NOS, nitrous works, and TNT.
superchargers:
ATI procharger and Vortech both make a quality supercharger for 88-92 thirdgens. They run around $2800+

Guido: I posted this here because this forum has the most members that have acheived that mark. The rest are consrned with getting into the 13"s or geting out of the 15-17"s sorry if this bothered you I thought you were here to help.

it took me a little bit of engine work.. but my car is some what of a "freak" i've been told...
87 350 TPI
ported alu vette heads,
superram manifold base
BBK 52mm TB
24# SVO injectors
CAI
hooker shorties
3" exhaust, no cats
chip I burnt,
3.73 gears,
probuilt stage 3 700r4,
2400 stall
vette servos, etc,
LT4 hotcam,
1.6 RRs,
hypereutic pistons,
forged conrods, etc..
and some other stuff I'm forgetting..
this got me my best run at 12.72 @ 116.4
with a 2.3x 60' time, and my getting sideways into second and third..
Now I'm hitting consisten 11.50s on my gtech with a 150 hp NX wet kit, and some other little goodies.. (the 12.72 @ 116.4 was *NOT* done on a gtech, it was done at orlando speedworld in october of last year..)
it's not hard to get a L98 into the 12s.. just takes a little cash.
btw, my car is full interior, run on 93 octane pump gas, on kumho ecsta street tires.

If you're after good 60 foots, and 12s the suspension is a good place to start. After that, maybe bolt on a nitrous kit.
In a 3100-3300 pound car, it'll probably take about 325-350 HP minimum to go high 12s assuming good traction/launch.

I'm still planning on buying a D-1SC (10 lbs) with SuperFueler setup in Fall. Hopefully I can hit 12s on an otherwize stock motor.
My trannie took a crap on me so, I got a new pro-built with 2400 ACT stall on the way so no worries in that area.
