Which Pump to get?

I'm looking to get an inline booster pump for my GTA.. It's currently spraying a 150 wet shot. My intank pump is a stock replacement pump, about 2 or 3 years old. I have my fuel pressure set at 51psi WOT. Immediate future plans (within the next 3 months..) for this setup include a dual stage n2o setup, with the second stage being a 300 shot DPI.

My pump seems to be holding up fine, but for piece of mind I'd like an inline booster.

I've got it narrowed down to two pumps: The Vortech T-Rex and the NOS 15764.

What are your guys' experiences with these pumps? Do you have any recommendations?

Should I consider a different pump?

I will be installing the intank Walbro 255 that I have in the garage within a month or two, and will still want to run an inline booster with it.

I plan on having the inline pump running off a switch so I will only be using it when I race. Is this feasible? Will the shut off pump be too much resistance for the stock intank pump?

How is the noise factor with the T-rex and the NOS pump? I prefer the mean whine of a nice big fuel pump (nice and intimidating..)

How's the quality?

I've seen teh NOS one going for $336 and the T-Rex for $199.

Why is the NOS one that much more, is the holley name worth the difference? (IIRC the Vortech pump flows a *lot* more fuel..)

Thanks for the help...

I had that NOS pump for a year when I was still running a stock pump. In all actuallity, you could probably run it alone but I think it and the stock one is a good route to go.

*** DO NOT RUN IT INLINE AND SHUT IT OFF! THAT WILL KILL IT AND THE STOCK ONE! ***

I talked to TPIS about this. They said dont do it that it will kill both of them inline. I learned the hard way before they told me on my daily driver car. I had a small inline that I stuck inline because I was too lazy to drop the tank and change out the dying stock one. It ended up taking both pumps out in the end. BOTH OF THEM.

So let my experience be a word to the wise.

Another option is you could sump your tank and run an external pump like an aeromotive or a Weldon. If it were me, Id run the NOS one inline with what you have. Cut your stock line, splice in with a piece of rubber, and wire a new relay that will still engage with your stock relay so they both kick on at the same time.

Good luck.

Ok, thought so...

I assume the T-Rex is an inline impeller type pump.. and that's why it would kill both if I left it off.

Thanks guido

My suggestion would be to run the dual 255 intank setup. Seems to be the hot ticket with the fourthgen guys. I hear it is good to 700hp. That should do the trick!

I'm using a Walbro 255lph inline and stock intank. Flows more than the T-Rex and if I remember right costs about $150. Its a nice pump. You cant go wrong.

I like the setup you prepose, the only one I like more, is this one. it allows for real nasty gas (like 116) to be run only on the juice for just nitrous enrichment. I have built several of these.

I suppose you want to hear from someone who's actually used one of these pumps. I have! I've used the T-Rex in-line and a Buick GN in-tank pump for 2-1/2 years with no problems. These pumps support my system, ~450 hp and over 500 ft/lbs torque. My fuel pressure is set at 52 psig, but creeps up to 62 (or so) under boost. This setup also supports the Superfueler's three additional injectors with no pressure loss.

It does seem a little overkill but I like to be sure, I usually do it for cars running the NX gemini twin or quad. the one pictured is for a gemini quad but I built the exact same one for a car running a NX Titan on an EFI converted intrake. please see the Titan here http://www.nitrousexpress.com/titan.htm if you build a bulletproof 350 engine with 300 RWHP then this could take you over 1000 RWHP
