Last time I checked there wasn't that much room in the engine bay. I think your gonna have to work on the piping for the turbo's as they won't fit like they are in the pic. However it does look good.

but i think the turbos are positioned in the area infront of the wheel wells. the engine is designed to go into a corvette. and i dont know how similar corvettes are to camaros in terms of engine compartments.

any one who has actually measured, and is familiar with the way the strange angle that picture was taken affects the scale. It actually looks like it would fit. Look how far forward the turdos are mounted. look how tight to the engine the headers anddown pipe. it looks to me like the big problem is that the turbos would be in the radiator.

i thought we had more room up front that we didn't have to worry about the radiator.

it is a goofy angle, in other pictures the turbos aren't that far forward.

looking at some more pictures of that engine, it looks like the turbo starts at about the water pump.

now i haven't seen a fbody's engine bay in a while, how much space is between the front of the water pump and the radiator? can somebody measure that for me? it would be greatly appreciated.

and those exhaust manifolds are made out of titanium

this article is in the nov 2002 super rod if you want to read more

Huh? What? Who makes that!

I don't see how in the world it would fit in my car without removing 90% of my accessories and then maybe chopping my wheel wells.

in the article it stated that the engine liked a smaller exhaust valve than normal. i don't know what a normal sized valve is for exhaust.

but if this is true, why is it? do you get higher preasures in the exhaust gas for the turbo, or greater exhaust velocity?

I go to University of Texas San Antonio. I am in charge of our drivetrain team for the car. Unfortunatly I have to give a presentation in front of all our sponsers and school faculty in 2 weeks. How is your car coming along? What diff are you guys using?

I think optimally what you want is the best compromise between area and flow. Smallest area you can get and still acheive great velocity. The more velocity, the faster and sooner the turbo spins.

Hey 87Z-ya, what teams are you guys talking about? Does UTSA have a racing team or something? I'm getting close to transferring there from NW Vista soon and that would be cool to get into.

It would be dam close if it fit at all. However you would definately need to move the washer bottle, battery, charcoal canister, cruise control, fuel lines, etc. even then it may take some bending of the headers slightly to snake it into the compartments in front of the wheel wells

yeah of course the plastic and other temp - o - phobic items out of the way. but i think that the turbos should be able to clear, it would be close tho.

'87FAKE-IROC-Z:
to answer your question, our schools are involved in this competition where we design and build our own race cars, it is called formula sae, and if your college is an engineering college there is a chance they may be in the competion, but i may be wrong. they kinda are a cross between a go cart and a indy car. they probably weigh around 500 lbs and have about 50-80+ hp.

There's no way that will fit, if nothing else, the headers/exhaust will hit the brakes, strut towers and crossmember. Looks like the turbos are too far out and you'd get stuck cutting the inner fenders/strut towers to clear them, as well as axing everything mounted behind the headlights.

well i wouldnt want to use these particular headers. they seem to be a bit pricey for me. being made out of titanium, at least they say they are.

but it doesn't mean that we cant use this particular design for ideas. look at how he positioned the turbos, he used the right angle in the housing to help with the tight packaging, and the down pipes.

look at how he has the waste gates. they are plumbed off of internal waste gats with an aftermarket unit at the end of the pipe. if you look closely you can see them.

look how he is running the down pipe, i hope to do something like this on my car.

i also really like the accessory drive. the set is made by vintage air, and it locates all of the accessories infront of the engine making more room on the sides for turbos. and it even has A/C.

Actually, this particular motor in the pictures was built for a 62 Biscayne. They built a similar motor with the turbos tucked in tighter to fit in the Corvette. And the power numbers somehow appeared in the magazine before the engine was even on the dyno (PHR) Maybe they took the power numbers from the motor built for the Corvette. The turbos stick out that far on this motor just for looks.
