Can you TC or SC a ZZ4?

By that I mean, buying a shortblock, building it up with supercharging in mind. I am concidering using the blower shown below. Will the Hypereutectic pistons stand up under the stess of the powercharging? I seem to be getting contradictory answers.

Also do they make turbochargers for Carbuerated engines? I've never heard of any.

yes you can turbo or supercharge a zz4

will it last? with the right tuning, for a while without detonation.

but you need to be ontop of the timing.

so forged would give me far more leeway I imagine.
Guess I could always change them and sell the hypereutectics.

As far as turbos go, you just have to find one or two, make some sort of setup with the exhaust to drive them, then devise some sort of air tubing through an intercooler I guess. So all i'd need are the turbo(s), intercooler, and some tubing and a little ingenuity.
I am just researching possibilites for replacements for my aging LO3.

Thanks,
Chris

Finding the turbos is the easy and probably the cheapest part. Before you do anything, look around at parts prices.

You'll most likely need:

Turbos
Intercooler
BOV
Wastegates
Tubing
Samco hose (or something th't'll work)
Some sort of boost retard ignition setup
Turbo headers/manifolds
Downpipes

This calls for more than a handfull of bucks and some ingenuity.

I'd advise you to do some research before you end up (a little like me, but I knew I was going in deep ) spending ****loads on this thing and not having it ready anytime soon

Can I use my current headers (Hooker Competition shorties) and make a little extension off of it (4-6") then attach the turbo to that? then run the air tubbing under the car to an intercooler behind the radiator?

Theres also a few things on your list that I never heard of, definitely going to have to do more research, but the earliest this project will be gin will be in the summer anyways. But I do appreciate all help and advice.

Also where is the best place to buy a turbo? Ebay? What types are best? All the ones I saw on there were for civics or other imports , want to get an idea on price.

I once read in CarCraft "never mix hairdryers with carbs", meaning Turbos and Carbs do not mix well.

Did they give an explaination to why they don't mix?
Does anyone here have a carb turbo mix?

I was thinking about getting a Stealth ram maybe instead of a carb, but thats a $2,500 extra expense that I could do without. And I have seen many instances where an FI system(LT1, TPI) has been replaced by a carb and made significant more power, granted you can burn chps but still, despite logic, people tend to make more power with cars than FI, tats my reason for it.

I don't have emmisions testing in MI here. Only trouble will be hood clearance. Nothing like having a seemingly stock, low power LO3 and blowing the doors off everyone. Get a cowl hood, there goes the effect. Thats why the turbo interests me so much, cant hear it, can't see it.

there are a few examples floating around somewhere here of blow through carb set ups, the most common turbo setup I see aroung is the old rayjay/accel systems that are pull through.
