what are you using or plan on using for a muffler on your cars

I know this is more exhuast based but I figured I would post here as well

I want soething that flows well and doesn't add backpressure into the system

this will be used more as a pre muffler since the mufflers I am going to get for the main ones will just be dual 2 1/2 inch straight through

also the muffler needs to be stainless packing not fiberglass

exhuast temps are around 1600-1800*F so I would burn the fiberglass out failrly easily

need something that doesn't burn out

My car isnt even loud enough to need a muffler. But everywhere I race has a rule that says I need to have one.

So I bought a dynomax race bullet and will be installing it. 4" in/out.

My car is very quiet right now with just the downpipe exiting behind the passenger side front wheel.

*shrug* LOL

I've been driving mine aorund without mufflers as well. My downpipe is about 3-4' long and has a v-band clampo at the end to connect to the rest of the exhaust system. I just left the rest off and the exhaust dumps out under the foorwells behind the front tire. It sounds pretty good at idel and cruise, but it does get a little loud under WOT, but t sounds very good - powerful and you can really hear the turbos spooling up and the wastegates.

When I have the rest of the exhaust on the car, I hve it capped off by a pair of Borla XR1 mufflers. These are 'race' mufflers, fully stainless steel, but when I run them the car is very quite, almost stock like. You can still hear the turbos and wastegates, but not nearly as much and barely at all from outside of the car.

so how loud would you say your cars are?

can you drive them on the road and not have to worry about the sound police pulling you over without mufflers?

if so, that is sweet, that will make my setup that much easier to do.

Mine gets pretty loud at WOT. The only cruising I have is at about 15 mph up and down the alleyway behind my house though and its been quiet then.

I have talked to some turbo dudes about this and they say that flowmasters and some similar chambered mufflers use sonic technology to produce good power. well the waves coming out of an engine post turbo are much different making them a hinderance, The Single 4" flowmaster I got with my Mufflex system you can see right through so I figure a similar (but maybe smaller) series in the flowmaster line would be the only one to use. anyone know more about this?

this seems to be the muffler of choice among a few of the turbo dudes Ive seen. on the subject of running no muffler I have seen really nasty turbo cars that make very little noise until you really romp on 'em. GN's sound like killer bees

they sound like killer bees with no muffler under heavy boost but with the mufflers you dont hear anything hardley when you ride in it. It just goes woosh and feels like its been rearended by a 60 mile an hour big rig.
