Drag Racers Please help!!!
this probably isnt the best place to post this but I knew this is where I could get a hold of very knowledgeable racers.
I have a chance to get some Drag radials and was wondering if the tire size of these tires would fit in a stock 86 IROC (Clearing fenders well etc.) Will they fit right in or do I have to modify the chasis to make these fit?? Should I get them or not
The Tire size is 11.5/28.5-15 firestone Drag Radials w/ a # that reads PT-80 on the edge near the bead (what does PT-80 mean?)

No they fit fine. I previously had 17x9 SS wheels on the car and banged in the inner fender but only a little. with the drag suspension in it it is so flexible that the wide tires rubbed just a tad but I haven't had a problem with my slicks.

How do you "roll the fenders". I'd like to go to a bigger tire, but I don't want to tear them up on the sheet metal.

I haven't rolled the fenders on my formula yet so sorry no pics : (. I did it on my 82 t/a but someone was nice enough to rear end me so it's long gone by now. Any ways to roll the fender you take a wizz wheel or a hack saw or something and put cuts in the lip on the underside of the quarter about 2-3 inches apart and then bang the lip up with a hammer. It isn't hard but if you aren't careful you can crinkle the profile of the quarter - just make sure you put enough cuts in and mke sure they go all the way to the wall of the quater.

I would avoid any cutting if you can, you’re just asking for rust and other problems and the rear quarters are a structural part of the body so in a high powered car you could even end up with some tearing.
The best way to do it is to get 3 people and a baseball bat. One goes behind the wheel, one holds the bat between the lip and the tire and you pull the car forward and back and the bat will roll between the lip and the tire forcing the steel up and against the inside the quarter. Once you get it started the 3rd person sits on the back of the car to add some weight to help the process (you’ll find that you’ll be able to lift the body with the process otherwise and not get much rolling). I’ve done it with a piece of 2.5”, 16ga exhaust pipe also, but it’s much more difficult because it doesn’t grab the metal like a wooden bat will.
