I had originally wanted to get my TT setup finished over X-mas, but alas, too much to do and too many people to see. Oh well, I put a good dent in it anyways.. I'll give you guys the highlites but if you want to see more, check my website.. ttz28.com

Here we go...

Stuffed the manual steering box from the S-10 in, only problem was the sway bar bracket which was slightly in the way.. It was promptly removed...


Built the second header



Made the reducer for the carb hat.



Got one of the turbos pretty well mounted. Still needs to be cleaned up and finished.



Put two 1/2" drain pipes into the front of my oil pan.. Sorry, forgot to take pics... /sigh.. I also cleaned up some wires and junk like that.. Slowly but surely, she's coming along.

Every time I see one of these fabrication projects I get all giddy

I'm gonna say no, it isn't a must, but it sure gives me a lot more room to play.

I didn't get rid of the power steering because of the turbo setup tho, I axed it because it robs power.. It's worth a tenth of a second in the quarter when you run 13's and 14's.. (worth a bit less as you get faster) I had cut the pump off a while ago and was tired of power steering without the pump (ie, sucks to steer)

Ya, I can see how that would give you a lot more room and every little bit of power helps. Looks like your projects coming along nicely.

nice job on that S-10 box I have been looking at those and talking about it for a while but my big question is: what pitman arm does the job?

Heh, I wondered the same thing, but the ONLY thing you need for the job is the steering box itself...

This is a pic of what I took off my car... The old steering box.. What you see here is the ONLY thing I needed from the S10 to make the swap (just the manual box itself with the short arm that is bolted to it.. Use the Camaro pitman arm, joints, steering shaft etc, etc)...




As well, it's about 4.5 turns lock to lock now..

If by pitman arm you're talking about the long arm that runs parallel with the firewall, then no... I'm not sure what the 1 foot bar on the bottom of the box is called, but I left that on the S-10 box..

Let me know if I'm confused or confusing... lol

I keep wondering if there is a reasonably fast ratio manual box out there somewhere, maybe not stock fast, but faster then the s10 box.

so you kept the s-10 box pitman arm it came with (they require a puller to remove anyhow), and the sterring shaft hooked right up to the new box?

B4Ctom1 - Yep, you nailed it right on.. The steering shaft from the Camaro bolts up to the S-10 box and the pitman arm that is attached directly to the bottom of the S-10 box now, is the same pitman arm that was on it when it was in the S-10..

I always thought that the big bar connecting the two tie rods on either side of the car was called the pitman arm, but I'm probably wrong

Anyhow, let me know if you need anything else..

I will be adding the S-10 steering box to my Iroc soon too, but I gotta find one. How much did you pay for yours? Where did you find it? I am assuming any 80's model non-power box from an S-10 is will work right?

I havn't had a chance to drive the car yet with the new box, but is it ever easy to turn compared to the power steering box with out the pump hooked up... (obvious, yea I know) I think you'll love it..

Hrm, could be hard, could be easy I guess.. I went to a local junk yard and he told me they were popular and that he only showed 5 in the maritimes.. Guess how much he wanted? 200 bucks Canadian! I laughed pretty hard..

I made some phone calls and just out of a stroke of luck, the place where I get all my stainless (scrap steel yard) had an old S-10 frame with a box on it.. Got it for 20 bucks.. That was luck tho.
