Turbine gaskets
Are you using any sort of gasket between the headers/manifolds and the turbine input flange? Are you using any sort of gasket between the turbine output flange and the downpipe's flange?

I am monty. I bought mine from Precision and they are a metal gasket. I bought them because I didnt have my flanges milled for flatness. Kept them visually flat but you know how that can turn out sometimes.
I added the gaskets for safe measure.

I didn't use any gaskets between the headers and turbine, or between the turbine and the downpipe initially. When I took everything back apart last week to have everything ceramic coated, I could see a few spots where a was getting a little exhaust leakage (tell-tale signs of carbon/soot on the flanges). No major leakage, but a little leakage nonetheless. All of my flanges are at least 3/8" thick stainless steel, so they should be pretty rigid and resistant to warping. I was thinking of buying some copper sheet, and making some gaskets from that. I bought a set of copper SCE collector gaskets for the header/turbine connection and they fit pretty well, but not perfectly. I'm using the PT52 turbo's, so they have the GN turbine flanges rather than the standard T04.
Thanks Guido, I just called Precision and ordered a pair of their copper gaskets for the header/turbine connection. Patrick at PTE said they normally don't use a gasket between the turbine and downpipe since a leakage there owuldn't effect performance, he said they do use Ultra-Copper silicone sometimes. I think I'll just leave it as is, as it is very minor leakage.

I got my gaskets and blockoff flange from this guy on e-Bay. He might have more or can get them. Here is his e-mail. bpmotoring@aol.com

Thanks for the advice Guido, I got my turbine/collector gaskets from Precision yesterday, they appear to fit much better than teh SCE collector gaskets I bought. The Precision gaskets have a slightly smaller hole than the opening of the turbine inducer, appearantly due to the porting done to the turbine housing. I guess I'll get the die grinder and some cartridge rolls to gasket match it. But nonetheless, it's a better fit than what I had before.
