My TT project update

Here are some pictures of the work I've done so far. The passanger side manifold will be pretty much a mirror of the drivers side.

I still have to drill a couple of holes out to the right size (they keep eating my drill bits) and have the flanges milled.

I found some paint locally that is good for 650 degrees c... If my math is right thats 1200 degrees f.... will it work for these or is my only option ceramic coating?

You will have to copy and paste the links into your address bar to make them work from thirdgen.org

Dan you are doing a great job on this project!! Im happy to see it coming along!

Will that turbo fit under your hood?? It looks a bit tough but without seeing it sitting on the engine, it is tough to get a perspective on it.

Either way, its looking awesome! Good job!

Thanks for the compliments

... and they better fit... I threatened them that I'd sell them on e-bay to someone with a truck if the dont

After the initial mockup I took some measurements and it was fairly close (the picture I posted last week)... I changed the design a bit and got it down about an inch from there. As it stands in these pictures the height from the top of the header flange to the top of the turbo (exhaust housing) is 10". This should give me about 2 1/2" of space between the exhaust housing and the hood. The intake side will have less room because of the slope of the hood but I don't know exactly how much yet. I've got an ASCD ram air hood so I have an inch or two more space than with the stock hood.

Nice...

You might want to look in to some of these coatings.

http://www.hpcoatings.com/exhaust_coatings.htm

I just got off the phone with Cory Ure andhe said the H serices will hold upto 1600*

Im looking to carry the line of the Polished Alum color for headers etc.

It looks like you've got some web page skills. Interested in hosting my project on your page alongside yours? I could supply you with the photos and info.

Me? Web page skills? lol, I wish..

Unfortunatly, I only have 5 megs of free webspace with my ISP and it's shrinking quite rapidly.. As well, I spend every waking moment in the garage on my TT project..

If you wait a couple weeks, and you get some web space somewhere, I'd be more than happy to help you with your web page..

Cheers!

Those are very nice headers. Looks good with that nice new turbo on it. I wish I would have made mine like that. But my logs work great so I'm happy about that. Yours will work awesome. Good job.

Great work Dan, are you going to be using a puck style waste gate setup on the exhaust housing? your down pipe looks like it has the setup for it.Does the housing have that extra hole for the puck?looks like a GN style down pipe setup.

Good luck

Yep its a GN style turbo from http://www.precisionte.com They are PT-51's. The turbos do have the holes for the internal waste gates so they use the stock style GN actuators. The down pipe you see is called a terry houston down pipe and it does have the puck style waste gate.

The latest update is:
This week, I did some grinding on the manifold that was nearly complete... cleaned up the welds and fabricated 80% of the #8 tube into the passenger side manifold.

Last night I ordered some miscilanious parts from precision including my actuators, hose, clamps, nuts-n-bolts, etc.
Still lots of parts to order.

This evening I just finished up my cardboard mock intercooler to check fitment before I order the cores. It looks like its going to be a dual a/w intercooler setup with one over each valve cover converging into a common plenum over the throttle body. Each intercooler will be angled downward slightly. The cores I'm looking at are from http://www.bellintercoolers.com 3"x12"x6". They flow 385 cfm each.

Sounds good dan!

Are you building this stuff in Germany? Is the car there or here in the states?

Guido,
It's here in Germany with me. Its kind of a pain sometimes but others its not too bad... for example no one locally has ever heard of a die grinder or anything other than metric drill bits/nuts and bolts, shipping is pretty expensive from the states also... on the other hand when I get home from work its about 10am on the east coast... so when I want to talk to small shops they are open... oh and you know those funky brake lines we have that no one in the states has heard of... well you can get them in any auto parts store over here.

Its also pretty cool to be able to drive it here... I can actually say that I've legally driven it 140 mph.
