First Nitrous install Questions

I am planning on buying a TBI nitrous kit for my LO3 within the next few weeks. I need to know exactly what you guys would suggest i buy along with the kit. From what i understand, i can use the stock fuel pump as long as i add a fuel pump regulator to it. My friend told me to pick up an HEI kit and plug wires as well. Is there anything else i'm going to need? Which brand/ company would you guys suggest i buy from your own experiece? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Donnie

i would get a n20 and fuel pressure gauges, bottle warmer, and a purge kit. Depending on how large of a shot you are running i would say anything 150 or above i would get a seperate fuel pump for the nitrous system (Jegs Part #741-15763. These are just a list of things that i would get to ensure that you have trouble free operation.

I had that TBI kit on my S-10 4.3L truck, it is the same kit for 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, and 454 TBI cars and trucks. The kit was very nice and complete, it was made by NOS (Holley). The kit costs $529 and the additional stuff I used was a remote bottle opener ($180), a purge kit ($90) various lines and gauges ($150), as you can see it can nickle and dime you. The kit added great power and dropped my 1/4 times by an average of .8 to 1.1 sec.

Bought it at a local speed shop, they just happened to have in stock because someone ordered it and did not pick it up so I got 10% off. Check summits home page, I just bought a nitrous kit for my B4C ($549) it is for TPI, but I think the TBI one was cheaper.

i'm new at nitrous and dont want to take any chances on blowing my motor. I probably wont be doing it myself because i dont have confidence enough to take that risk. How much would it cost to have a professional install it? Thanks

If you can find a place that will do it, to do it right usually takes about 6 hours, this is just a guess, when I put that same kit on my S-10 you have to install the plate between the TB and the manifold, you have to splice and tee the fuel line to feed the fuel solenoid (this took some time), you have to run your nitrous line from the bottle to the nitrous solenoid, you have to mount the bottle, you have to do the electrical connections, and most important DO NOT CHEESEDICK ANYTHING, you have to take your time and ensure everything is installed correctly and working properly. I am in the process of installing one on my B4C now, it is a TPI kit but is basically the same principle, however I am installing gauges, bottle opener, purge valve, so it takes awhile. I have installed these kits on three Camaros now and if I were to install one for someone I would charge them $350-$500, it is easy but time consuming, and the shop has a liability, so if you multiply the number of hours by a shop hourly rate ($60-$90 per hour) you can see it will be expensive. Just do it yourself, the instructions are pretty easy, just dont rush and ensure you check for leaks. If you have any more questions just PM me I have installed that same kit and can talk you through most of it.

i have a 305 the whole bottom end is stock, only mods are a mild cam, edelbrock performer intake manifold, and a 600 cfm edelbrock carb. i was lookin into getting a small nitrous kit. i was looking at the NOS sniper kit or the edelbrock performer nitrous kit. i was wondering if only used once in a long while, would this be ok with the motor? i don't wanna blow up my motor. also could i get away with using the stock fuel pump if i run a low shot? thanks for any help

You guys have to ensure you take your time on the installation, and ensure everything is tested and working properly prior to using it, also you have to know how to use it. Yes, nitrous will blow up your motor if you leave it on to long. Like the old saying "guns don't kill people, people do, well nitrous doesn't kill motors, people do.

so if properly set up with the right amount of fuel it should be safe for short periods of time. ? also would a mechanical fuel pump be safe to use if it suopplies the proper pressure and fuel flow.

Used for short duration it is ok, Fast and Furious (Hollywood style) motor would go sky high.
