Anyone running a 200 shot on stock rods and crank?? I have a balanced bottom end with arp bolts in the rods and probe industries forged pistons. Think it would be save ?

There are some LT1 guys over at camaroz28.com running 175-200 shots on the stock LT1 short block. LT1s have hypereutectic pistons so this leads me to think that they are a little more tolerant of nitrous than everyone says. With that large a shot though I think it would only take a little detonation to kill a motor.

yeah but on a ford it had stock forged pistons too (5.0's from 85 to 92)

What is your crank turned at? my machine guy (been building N20 motors for 20+ years) said that he would never run over 100hp shot and anything but a stand/stand. crank shaft. I plan on running a 150 or 200 on my engine. same thing as yours pretty much cept polished rods and wave-loc bolts. also I'm running aluminum heads so that may help w/ my detonation.

either way it will be fun til it goes. which, if you lean it out will be very shortly.

You'll be fine if ;

You use 110+ octane gas.
Use moderately retarded timing 6/8 deg.
Use cooler non projected tip spark plugs.

Feed it enough fuel to use up all the nitrous.

Do not use the NOS below 3000 rpm or at part throttle.

If you're not willing to follow these rules limit your NOS shot to 100/150hp.

a hypereutectic piston will take alot as long as you DON'T detonate;

my friend thought so until a tiny hole pushed through in the piston right above the pin, no burning, no detonation, 150 shot, race gas, retarded timing, cooler plugs the whole works, just a tiny triangle shaped hole in the piston and the missing piece was laying in the pan just perfectly. we call it his new "cylinder pressure releasing relief, it is his new personally created nitrous technology..." he didnt think it was too funny though. ran it for for two years though so that might be ok.

i've been using a 150shot on my hyper's,using pump gas, i when through the motor last month and all was fine. (Also need right ring gap with hyper pistons).

B4Ctom1... sounds like a defect in that piston

we thought the same thing I asked around and the proces for putting the silica into the aluminum (the process that makes them hyperutectic) can mix a little inconsistently making a brittle spot sometimes so yes this could be the case, as well it can be the case with any hyper piston. I and just about every one else have run a 100-150 shot on totally stock cast pistons, I have no doubt a hyperutectic could atleast survive that nominal amount.

standard crank.. arp bolts in the rods, balanced, prob industries forged pistons. great pisotn by the way too. its 70 grams lighter than a trw.

Im thinking about running a 100shot myself. Im scared tho. I know nitrous is safe if done right but still...i dont know.

Supposedly my motor has the same internals as a lt1...should I be fine with a 100 shot. I plan on getting a MSD box, 255lph walbro pump. Think I would be ok?
