What do you think...heads or 100 shot?

My mods are in my sig. I have ~5000 miles on the motor. My motor supposedly has the same internals as a lt1. I have cast pistons. I plan on getting a 255lph walbro pump and a MSD box with a rev limiter. I will probably get a fuel pressure safety switch also. With this fuel pump and my mallory FPR I should have plenty of fuel. I will be able to run a line from one of the extra ports on my regulator to my soleniods.

With these precautions taken should I be safe with a 100 shot on a 350. Everything on the motor has 5k on it including the proform distributer and carb.

Should I go nitrous and cam or should I go heads and cam?

heads / cam, hands down, dont play games with cast pistons, you can spray it, but heads and cam would be safer, plus its always there.

Well, if you are going to do a cam swap either way I would do heads. Then save up for the nitrous . There is just a little more work to swap out some heads if you are already changing out the cam. Putting in a nitrous kit is pretty easy, while swapping heads a much larger job.

Depending on what cam and heads you would get, I dont think gas would be that big of a deal. Nice heads and a nice cam will make you want to crap your pants from idle to wot. N2O is cool, but wears out the engine faster and what happens if something goes wrong and you blow your engine? If you have the money, I say go with heads and cam.

I plan on a set of modified vortec heads probably. And a cam with .498/.498 lift or so. Something like that. I would hope to have what...350hp NA?? Ill probably just do that.

Cam swaps suck...Heads are easy compared to cam swaps I think. Either way Im pulling the motor to do it so it should be easier that way.

JR305...what happened to the 305?

I never did understand why people use nitrous on the street. And especially in a V-8 at that. With the cars and motors we have, we shouldn't need nitrous to run faster. Stay on motor, and be happy for a long time. Boost is nice too.

I was changing out injectors and dropped a torque bit down into the manifold without noticing it. Started it up and heard a consistent popping sound, checked the spark plugs and #8 was all busted up. So instead of pulling the motor and rebuilding it I decided it was time for a 350.

Ouch that sucks. Did you ever get a chance to run that 305 with the nitrous and everything? Did you ever even use the nitrous? I think Im gonna stay NA for awhile till I get bored...Might either get forged internals and nitrous or one of those holley 144 blowers

Someday anyways.

I was spraying a 100hp shot on the 305 before the heads/cam, but never got it tuned to the point that I would spray it after the mods.

What kind of heads are you planning on getting for such a cheap price. N2O seems a lot cheaper than a heads and cam swap. I thought the vortechs were still $800. A kit is only 400 used. 500 brand new.

n2o kits can be had for 350$....vortecs are 250$ a head so 500$. Plus head bolts and gaskets your looking at ~700$. Paceparts.com sells a package tho that includes the heads, edelbrock RPM intake, all gaskets and bolts for 795$ I might do that. Id rather have the modified vortecs that can take .550'' lift tho. They are 350$ a piece through paceparts.

for vortecs there are a few companies that sell on ebay, that sell modified L31 heads even outside of ebay for $435 a pair check with some of these sellers and powerplus intake manifolds that fit vortec heads single plane, dual plane, and even airgap type dual planes made by professional products for under $150 check with these sellers

I think every one missed something.. aren't l05 heads 350 swirl ports? If they are replacing the heads is a no brainer.

I want to change the heads soon. I still need a few other things first. Im gonna get a MSD box for sure...I need a rev limiter, I need posi in a bad way. New gears. Then I will be getting the heads and cam. I hope to have all this by the end of summer. Man I hope I have another car to drive before next winter. 400hp, posi, and snow with be a bad combo.
