PCV question w/ total seal rings......
The machine shop told me that I might have a problem w/ excessive crankcase pressure using these rings. He said to make sure that the PCV system was working properly. Would there be a downside to just sticking a breather in the valve cover? What is the correct way to do this.
I don't want my dipstick blowing out of the tube.

its the opposite, total seals allow less blowby

One more thing, I got new valve covers and they didn't have any holes in them. Well I drilled one hole for the PCV one way check valve in the drivers side cover. Do I need one on the other side? I didn't think so, but I wanted to make sure.

The purpose of the PCV is Positive Crankcase Ventilation.
It's to ensure that there is some air movement thru the cranckcase to min the build of sulfuric acid fumes.
One valve cover has the valve and the other the filter.
Problems arise when the blowby is great enough that there is no fresh air dwarn thru the system. Or oil fumes are carried thru the PCV system into that intake manifold.
Not to be confused with crankcase evacuation systems, or negative crankcase pressure systems.
