Turbo on TBI...???
Ok, well I know nothing if anything about power adders, other than that they make power. Well I was thinking the other day, would a turbo be a good idea for a 305TBI? It's mostly stock, few bolt ons but nothing radical. I have good low end torque but I want a few more ponies up top and I was thinking a turbo or some juice would be a good idea. Now, what all would I have to change if I did a turbo? Would I have to get new heads(considering the sh*tty LO3's I have on now), a new cam? Would I have to worry about fuel management since my engine is running MAP? I knwo I could route it with a S-10 header turned upside down and I would fad up the intake part myself. I was it to run maybe 4-6psi, if that....just something to give it a little more pulling power in the 2500+ rpm range. I just want to know what all is involved in putting in and tuning a turbo.I looked at Willie's setup and that is nice...but I am probably gonna get a small turbo from a junkyard and just go from there...so I don't want to spend an arm and a leg.
If that doesn't work, should I run spray? I know the ease of it but I just don't know if it would be good for my 140000+ mile engine. Any info or advice would be good....I know they make a kit especially for TBI(trucks) that I could probably use that runs a 100-150 shot. Just trying to figure out what to do here.
thanks!

well, first off you should do a compression and leakdown test to make sure that your motor is up to the task.
if your knew to power adders i suggest you do a little reading on the specific type of power adder you want to do. if you are unfamilair w/ turbos they might seem quite complex. also w/ a tbi i think youd have to modify the throttle body so air and fuel doesnt leak past the throttle shafts or something like that. your ecu will not read positive manifold pressure either.
i think if your looking for the cheapest kick nitrous would be a good alternative....as long as you dont get greedy with it and check your fuel system to make sure its up to task.
some like juice others dont. any power adder can be great fun or a terrible nightmare..just do your research and check to make sure your engine can handle what your planning.

Is that just the kit from NOS? Did you have to replace your fuel pump or add a FPR??? Just want to make sure I don't turn my engine into a fireball if I do any of this.thanks

I swapped to carb, Vac. Adv. HEI and added a Holley FPR. I set it at 6psi and the initial at 6 degrees. I built the kit myself from ebay and used parts ie(ghetto nitrous).

so really no need for a massive new fuel pump? I am in need of a new one anyways but was gonna do the TPI one and just add a FPR when I rebuild my TB. So as long as I keep the fuel pressure right I shouldn't have to worry about anything? Should I pump the timing up or add any kind of ignition amplification? Sorry if these ? sound dumb....just trying to get as many straight answers as possible.thanks

No just y-off your fuel line to a regul. and set it to around 5.5 psi or manuf. recomendations. You dont add timing you take it out. My best timing setting was about 12 degrees initial (w/ the carb and non CC dizzy) so I turned back to 6. I thing the general rule is 2 degrees per 50 hp. Stock Coil and stock TBI pump.
