With the exception of the T3’s, and some of the Holsets you won’t find a turbo in the junkyard that will be clearly labeled in a way that you can relate to the compressor maps. A T04e 50 trim won’t have T04e 50 trim written anywhere on it. The holsets will have the model on there tags, but that isn’t that helpful, since there are quite a few of each one (ex, there are 9 different sizes H1E that I know of, and 6 HX50’s, there are 2 HX55’s that are smaller then most of the HX50’s, most of the H1D’s are smaller then the H1C’s even though the H1D is a “larger frame” turbo).

What about them? As far as I can tell, the GM 6.5L diesel turbos are all roughly the same size even though they have different designations. They’re also fairly small acting compared to a relatively large physical size

I also know that when 6.5 owners ditch the GM-3 for a GM-5 or GM-5 for a GM-8 the get a huge improvemnt in power.
